The Ultimate Fall Capsule Wardrobe for Me

If you check out my Winter Capsule Wardrobe Essentials post you can see that this is the type of stuff that I wore all last winter that I documented for the duration. The only difference being a winter coat and winter footwear.

If you notice, I didn’t include a leather jacket in this list which may be shocking to those that know me.

I am a HUGE leather jacket person but after some intense internal dialogue, I decided that for this post I would embrace the quilted jacket trend that is massive right now.

The look for these jackets is oversized, so I would probably size up in any that seem more waist skimming, regular fit. If it is oversized, to begin with then stick with your regular size.

Next up on my fall wardrobe must-have list are leather pants…leather anything really, but leather pants is a good place to start if you don’t want to jump fully in.

Black is usually the best and easiest choice because it is so easy to wear, but for the “feeling a little more adventurous” person maybe grab a pair in a rich brown/cognac colour.

You won’t regret it.

I think one of the most important factors to have a capsule wardrobe that really works is to include versatile pieces. Things that you can mix and match with any other piece in there and have an outfit that will work.

It’s great to want to include all of your favourite pieces but if these pieces don’t work well with one another you will have a dysfunctional wardrobe and instead of ease of dressing it will give you frustration.

And that goes against the purpose of what a capsule wardrobe is.

We want something to make our lives easier not more difficult which is probably why you came across this post in the first place.

I made my first capsule wardrobe about 8 years ago now.

Although it was more out of the necessity of not having a lot of money and needing to make the most of what I had than trying to make things more simple.

It really resonated with me and over those years has encouraged me to keep a relatively small collection of clothes that I love and wear consistently thorough most seasons.

One of my favourite purchases from last spring were my green flats from Zara. They sold out really quickly so I was excited to see that Mango has the same pair.

I included them because I find that a bold colour shoe can be such a fun way to add to an outfit. Even head to toe black looks fresh and exciting with a bright pair of shoes.

And never, ever underestimate the power of accessories. I live in my Jenny Bird necklace that I bought at the beginning of summer. I really want to invest in another, and a pair of their hoop earrings.

The pair that I included today are on my wishlist.

Note: I would also include a pair of joggers or track pants in this fall capsule wardrobe because if the last year and a half has taught us anything it’s that we need more comfort wear that takes us from lounging to outings.

Loungewear and weekend wear overlap now which makes things a whole lot easier.
