This week I have a minimalist fall capsule wardrobe. Two weeks ago I talked about how maybe 2020 would be the year we embrace our casual with my fall casual capsule wardrobe.
Based on how many retailers are selling casual wear/joggers now I think I hit the nail on the head.
This week I wonder if it will be the year where we realize that we own too much shit and we embrace our minimalist side.
Choosing classic over trendy.
Quality over quantity.
Buying the best you can afford in your price range is something that I advocate. And I am not one who sticks my nose up to trends.
I basically have the new release page on Zara website open in a tab 24/7.
I like to follow the trends, and I like to add a couple of pieces each season, but the majority of the pieces I own are pieces that don’t have an expiration date, and will/do carry through each season for YEARS.
I’ve had the same jean jacket since 1997.
And because trends are something that comes in a cycle, you can often find items second hand that were trendy the first time around.
Many of these pieces will still work.
For other items, you may want a modern cut, but it almost always pays to look.
This is where you kick yourself for getting rid of your original levis, Doc Martens, and early 90s band tees even though they only seemed to come in one size.
I also kick myself for purging my below the knee, green tapestry print wrap coat with faux fur collar.
Kick me hard in the ass please.
While my choices this week lean towards neutrals. A minimalist capsule wardrobe doesn’t have to be.
You can pick any colour and patterns you want as long as you can mix and match your wardrobe fully.
I just really like these colours and use them as staple wardrobe pieces. To add extra colour I pair them up with more colourful items or accessories that I already have to add colour and variation.
A minimalist capsule wardrobe is a collection of core pieces of clothing that you wear each day throughout every season (with the exception of a few pieces that may not carry into other seasons well depending on where you live).
When you create a minimalist capsule wardrobe it allows you to simplify your life so that you may focus your attention on more important things other than “what the hell am I going to wear today?” which is totally a time suck.
You will keep your comfort while remaining both classic and fashionable.
A minimalist capsule wardrobe should take you from work to dinner with ease, as well as provide a weekend wardrobe for play.
Travelling light will never be easier because you will have a standard set of pieces that will work with any packing list no matter the duration of the trip.
There are 30 fall outfit ideas at the bottom of this post to show you how versatile this capsule wardrobe is.
I know, I know, the pink blouse is REALLY expensive for a blouse, but it was literally the exact colour and style I had in my head and it was the only one I could find.
You could easily find an alternate tie-neck blouse and anywhere with a little searching.
Second-hand retailers like a Value Village, Goodwill, or online like Poshmark or eBay.
Side note: I read recently that Poshmark US is looking to expand into International shipping meaning Canadian’s can shop on the US site and US customers can shop on the Canadian site.
I’m not sure if it expands farther than North America but my world has opened up if this is true. Canadians will have access to a much larger market (although the exchange rate will suck).
And US people will have access to a much smaller market, but the exchange rate will give them ridiculous deals.
Back on track with the expensive blouse.
I LOVE a tie-neck blouse. They are so completely versatile.
Tie it loose, tight, not at all, or wrap it like a scarf. Layer it under things and have the ties hang out. And this colour embraces my inner girly.
Speaking of inner girly, you should read this post by someone I just found on Instagram. It totally resonates with me, and it the exact mindest I had after the birth of my first daughter.
It was almost a decade of losing my sense of self and sense of style.
It sucked.
Speaking of tie-neck blouses, I wonder where the hell I put mine? I haven’t seen it since my closet collapsed.
The cardigan is also expensive, but it is cashmere and a classic colour and style.
It will last you forever which is something you should take into consideration when making any purchases.
Cost per wear is something that I use on any item that is over $100. It helps me to determine whether it will be worth the investment or not.
I have the cape from Cuyana that was literally on my wishlist for 5 years before I bought it this spring.
I have no regrets. It is the same colour and brand as the cardigan and it is everything I hoped it would be.
Over the summer they lowered the prices on some of their staple pieces, the cape was included in this which made me cringe a little that I missed out on the cheaper price, but whatever.
It’s 2020, I should expect it by now.
Stay Safe.
