This week, I wanted to focus on a spring capsule wardrobe that has some of the things that I have been wearing a lot and bought for a spring wardrobe refresher.

I wear most of my wardrobe throughout the whole year.

This means that I don’t have things hidden away in storage that I get excited to pull out for other seasons.

This also means that I can get a little bored with it sometimes season after season, without the excitement of pieces you haven’t seen or worn in a year.

So every season I tend to do a refresher.

I add in a few pieces here and there to breathe some new life into my current wardrobe. These are often secondhand clothes or accessories that I have on a wishlist.

But also sometimes it is a cute dress or well-fitting trousers.

This season includes an Anine Bing sweatshirt that I loved from the first moment that I saw it.

I always use the cost per wear calculator and since her sweatshirts are in constant rotation it is a good buy for me.

I can also wear it paired with skirts or over dresses in warmer weather.

So it gets year long usage.

Something else that I got was an oversized blazer in a grey-blue colour. I love the split complementary colour scheme of grey-blue, and red/red-orange.

It is very striking to me.

I also included the matching trousers in this spring capsule because matching suits are really on-trend right now and this is a gorgeous colour.

The next two pieces are bottoms.

One is a high waist, wide-leg trousers in a camel colour. I have been striking out left, right, and center with trousers lately because they have all been way too long.

These come in an option for a short inseam, and they are perfect. I can even wear them with sandals, and they aren’t pooling on the floor.

You can see them on me here.

The other pair is a slouchy jean. I have never really tried Everlane denim before because I hate buying jeans online.

But I figured since they were supposed to be slouchy that it shouldn’t be too bad if I just get my regular size.

I am going to love these in summer cuffed and slouchy.

If you want them more high rise and fitted, I suggest going down a size. Otherwise, they will fit lower on the waist and hang lower in the crotch area.

Which is actually the vibe I am looking for at the moment. You can see them on me here.

There is also a pair of Levi’s that I want in a similar cut, but they do not have the wash that I want in Canada.

I’m keeping my eyes open, though.

A fantastic trench coat is like top on my list.

I searched high and low. I wanted a vintage Aquascutum, but could not find one in the style I was looking for.

Then BAM, suddenly someone had one on Poshmark, so I made them an offer and they accepted.

It is exactly what I was looking for and is the best damn trench that I have ever owned.

The last couple of things is a white blazer and a purse. My blazer is vintage Escada, but the one I included looks great too if you aren’t up for the wait or the hunt.

The houndstooth bag is one that came out around Christmas and kept selling out.

I kept resubscribing to the waitlist and every time it came back in, it sold out before I could jump on it.

This last time I managed to grab it, and it is lovelier in person than I hoped.

It is a really great bag.

You can see the sweatshirt, trench, and handbag all in one photo here.

As you can see by my choices for my wardrobe refresher I am just as happy, if not more so, by finding a secondhand piece to add to my wardrobe than a new one.

I would buy everything secondhand if I could always find what I am looking for.

It’s not about how much money you spend, it is about how you look and feel when you are wearing it.

  1. Love your blog! Question: what software/app do you use for your outfit laydowns? I love the exercise of wardrobe planning, but Excel (aka no pictures) isn’t cutting it. Thanks for all you do.

    • Hi Julia, I use photoshop but there are free services like Canva that do similar things. Canva can be done on a computer or through their app. They offer a subscription for a lot more bells and whistles but the basics are free 🙂
