How to Build a Neutral Spring Capsule Wardrobe on a Budget

Seriously, a lot.

There is also colour, but it is kind of just sprinkled in, which is what I wanted to do with this spring capsule wardrobe.

There is actually a reason behind why clothes in stores don’t seem quite as vibrant as they did a few years ago.

That is because trend forecasters, whose job it is to predict what the next trends will be also do this concept with colour.

But with colour, they try to wait until the last possible minute because things can change so swiftly.

Their job isn’t to manage colours, but more to identify what colours the consumers are ready for.

And here is the thing, during times of calm and prosperity consumers gravitate towards brighter colours, in harder and darker times they gravitate towards darker and neutrals.

Ding, ding, ding.

After these past few years of uncertainty, our clothes selection is now reflecting that.

So while you may not necessarily follow this feeling about colours in your own life, it is definitely something that has a pattern in history and forecasters have predicted that we want safe and nondescript palettes for the time being.

Next season may change, but at the moment you are going to find that it isn’t going to be quite as easy to find that dress or item that you want in a specific colour.

So instead of going against the forecasters, I went with them because the selection out there for neutral items is much, much more to choose from.

When building a capsule wardrobe, a good, classic neutral wardrobe is a good choice anyway.

It is something that doesn’t focus on trendy pieces, but pieces that will last you through season after season.

You can sprinkle in some trends to round it out, not be the focus. This will give you a well-rounded capsule wardrobe for spring that you won’t get tired of.

Your wardrobe should only be 10% trendy pieces, 20% maximum if you are really looking for a seasonal refresh.

That way they are easy to remove a set aside when the trend gets tired, and you do not have to rebuild your wardrobe from scratch because 80-90% of it is timeless.

It is also really important to focus less on how popular a style is, and more on how it makes you feel.

In my years, and years of shopping secondhand, you are less likely to find the newest, trendiest bags, shoes, or clothes.

What you are going to find are things that are older and maybe not as sought after, but the question you ask yourself is, “do you love it?”

If the answer is yes, then who truly cares that it is an older style or trend. If you truly love it, you will wear it and use it forever, and that makes it a smart wardrobe purchase.
