Let us go back in time to the late 90s early 2000s. I had really honed in my style at that time and it was very much a rock style.

I had the tight animal print pants, leather, band tees, faux fur, studded belts/watches/accessories.

When Tom saw me for the first time I was wearing some low waisted black pants, a studded belt, a vintage Harley Davison tee with the sleeves cut off (which I still have), and a 3/4 length brown corduroy trench with a faux fur collar.

That was one of my favourite outfits.

My hair was bleach blond with pink highlights and I was probably wearing some kind of skateboarding sneaker since I managed a skateboarding shop at that time.

It’s funny how you remember those details.

A lot of things have changed since then, but a lot has stayed the same.

I have kept to the roots of my style and just evolved and adapted is as my lifestyle has changed throughout the years.

Back then I always thought that more was better when it came to wardrobe size.

I worked in a mall and instead of the cigarette breaks that everyone else took (I’ve never been a smoker), I took shopping breaks.

Which is also a form of addiction like smoking.

I bought new things several times a week and it was ridiculous because I still felt like I never had anything to wear.

As the week drew to a close I would panic shop for something new that I could wear out that weekend.

It was bad.

I managed to get control of that shopping addiction when I journeyed into my first capsule wardrobe 5 years ago.

It forced a shift of mindset that gave me clarity and the tools I needed, and I still use these today.

I have always been a thrift store shopper as well which also adds to a large wardrobe since it is hard to pass up such great finds whether you need them or not.

That is one that I am still working on.

Today’s post is about How to Build a Rock Chic Summer Capsule Wardrobe. It is like what I used to dress like but more grown-up. It is also reflective of the style that I am most comfortable in.

This capsule wardrobe you can carry through to the fall.

It is similar to my How to Build and Edgy Capsule Wardrobe post, so if you like this one you may like that one as well.

A few Rock Chic Capsule Wardrobe Staples for Summer:

  • A leather jacket
  • Sleeveless tops – preferable a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off but anything works.
  •  Something animal print.
  • Jeans. Lots of jeans in various styles. In grey and lighter broken-in looking washes.
  • An oversized denim jacket that looks like you stole it from a guy, or that you have had for years. I’ve had mine for 20 years.
  • Band tees. Vintage or new but looks vintage. I have had a lot of success in finding vintage band t-shirts in thrift stores but sometimes there are specific ones that I am looking for that are really hard to find. If I see those new I will buy them.
  • A black slip dress because nothing is easier to dress up or down. Plus, it looks great with leather.
  • A super feminine dress that you can tough up with leather and sneakers. I love the oxymoron of a look like this.
  • Statement jewellery. I am all about the animal rings at the moment. I’m still trying to figure out which one I want before I order.
  • And a little touch of bold colour.

Building a capsule wardrobe for any season shouldn’t be difficult if you are comfortable with your style and know what you like.

I know that I am still a rocker girl at heart.

Some things will never change.

Stay safe.
