I have loved department stores ever since I was little. They always seemed like a magical place and I wanted to get stuck in one overnight, like in the book Corduroy the bear.
When Nordstrom came to Canada it was exciting because I have heard my U.S. friends talking about shopping there for years and I finally got to experience it myself in person.
It is my husband’s go-to when he is buying me a gift because he knows that he will always be able to find something from my wishlist there.
Now that I have gone back to in-store shopping, it is where I have been going the most, although I always have a nordstrom.ca tab open on my computer.
It is like my quiet time when I can walk around by myself at my own leisurely pace to check out the new styles and trends in person.
Today, I put together a transitional capsule wardrobe using only selections from the Nordstrom Canada website.
It will take you through the unpredictable weather of spring to summer.
Some days are sunny and hot, mornings and nights are cool, rain is common.
Transitional weather from spring to summer is one of my favourite times of year because there are so many changes, and everything is new, blooming, and turning green.
It’s the breath of new life after winter, and sometimes you need to breathe some new life into your wardrobe.
Several of these items come from Nordstrom’s Sustainable Style section, which offers sustainable selections and brands that they carry.
When planning a transitional wardrobe, it is a good idea to remember that layers are an important part of being able to transition through the day’s weather.
Select breathable fibres when you can, like the 100% linen, white, wide leg trousers, and the 100% cotton jeans, sweatshirt, and t-shirt.
Your spring wardrobe should be fun, so don’t forget to add some print and colours.
Remember that you can mix prints.
Stripes and florals make a great combination, and purple looks great with orange.
It is a time to have fun and make bold choices, and if you don’t want to wear colour, then add it with accessories or shoes.
Choose an oversized blazer for a light jacket when it is warmer, and a classic trench coat when you need something more substantial.
Footwear is always a hard choice, but I like to always include at least one bright coloured shoe in my wardrobe at all times. It can really bring so much to an outfit.
Clogs are back this season big time, and if you are looking for a more subtle version from the more traditional styles, the Birkenstock Buckley Clog is a great choice.
I just bought them in grey and I love them. They are great transitional shoes because they look great with and without socks.
The Birkenstock Arizona sandals are constructed from a rubberized, man-made material, so not only do they not contain animal products, but they are also waterproof, which is perfect for this time of year.
I also have the Arizona sandals in black, and I find that they are easy to wear (with and without socks) and didn’t need to be broken in.
Then throw in a pair of heels for dressier days, and a pair of retro looking sneakers like the Nike Daybreak which are modelled after their 1979 counterpart, and you have a fully rounded footwear selection.
This capsule wardrobe would also make a great packing list with a few changes to make it carry-on worthy.
Nordstrom has a great resort and vacation style section as well if you are in the vacation mindset…because after two years, who isn’t?
