We all know by now that I like to buy clothes that are versatile and work really hard in my wardrobe.

I wear the same things over, and over and try to challenge myself with new and interesting ways to wear them.

I really wanted a pair of brown high waisted, wide-leg trousers, and when I came across these I fell in love with them.

I included them in this work capsule wardrobe post and they checked all the boxes for what I was looking for.

BUT, they ended up costing way more than I wanted to pay after I factored in exchange rates, shipping, and duties + taxes.

It wasn’t worth it even though I loved them.

Then I came across these trousers and they caught my eye and made my bank account happier.

I thought that I would give them a try, and lo and behold I actually really liked them.

They are high waisted, brown (with a light check/plaid), has wide legs, aren’t too heavy a fabric, and affordable.

And I didn’t need to hem them which is perfect.

I like them so much I decided that I wanted to try them on a bunch of different ways to see how versatile I could make them.

Which led to this How to Wear Wide Leg Trousers post, so you could learn right along with me.

Below I have the 9 easy fall outfit ideas which include one from yesterday’s what I wore post.

With each outfit, I have given you a variety of what shoes to wear with wide-leg trousers, but it would also depend on the length.

These fit perfect in length on me so I can get away with flats and sandals with them.

A few reasons why I love wide leg pants?

  • Wide leg pants can make you look taller.
  • Wide leg pants can cover muffin top.
  • Wide leg pants are comfortable.
  • Wide leg pants can be dressed up or down.
  • Wide leg pants can give you more shape.

And just like jeans, wild leg trousers come in many different styles, so trial and error is your best bet when trying to determine which style looks best on your body shape.

I hope you find and love a great pair of wide leg trousers like I do.

Have fun with them.

Outfit 1: The Modern Annie Hall

Blouse | Trousers | Sneakers | Purse | Watch

This outfit made me feel like a modern version of Annie Hall. It has a menswear vibe with a feminine twist.

It was super comfortable.

The blouse is from Zara, but a men’s button-up would be a great option. They are also easy to find second hand at thrift stores.

Outfit 2: Minimal Monochrome

9 Easy Fall Outfits Using One Pair of Trousers Minimalist Monochrome with all browns.

Sweatshirt | Trousers | Bag | Flats (similar) | Watch |

I kept it monochrome with this look incorporating my favourites shades of brown.

The sweatshirt is the biggest size from Zara kids (boys). Sometimes you can find great basics in the kid’s section because a 13-14 is usually equivalent to a women’s small, and sometimes even medium.

It’s a good way to save some money since kids clothes are significantly cheaper.

Outfit 3: The Love of a Great Turtleneck

9 Easy Fall Outfits Using One Pair of Trousers. A turtleneck bodysuit for the win.

Turtleneck Bodysuit (gifted via Everlane)| Trousers | Boots | Bag

I am a reformed former turtleneck hater.

They are now a closet staple for me and this one is a GOOD one.

What I like about a turtleneck bodysuit is that it stays smooth. When you have to tuck a shirt you often see lines, so this avoids that.

The fabric of this turtleneck is very soft with a subtle rib. I really want it in all three colours and this one is going to get a lot of use this season.

Outfit 4: The More Oversize the Better

9 Easy Fall Outfits Using One Pair of Trousers. Paired with an oversized black sweater.

Sweater | Trousers | Boots | Bag

An oversized sweater is my fall and winter go-to.

The more oversized the better.

I usually like to balance a fuller bottom with a more fitted top but I really like this look.

It works well together. Maybe it’s because the knit is a lighter knit vs a heavy knit.

Outfit 5: Add a Little Edge

9 Easy Fall Outfits Using One Pair of Trousers. An Anine Bing Sweatshirt and blue sneakers.

Sweatshirt (similar) | Trousers | Sneakers | Bag

I love this sweatshirt. I wear it all of the time.

I pair it with anything and everything, and it was well worth the investment to me. I find that it adds the perfect amount of edge to whatever I am wearing.

This serpent graphic seems to sell out quickly but they keep restocking the tiger graphic style. That version is also on my wish list.

Outfit 6: When in Doubt Put a Blazer Over it

9 Easy Fall Outfits Using One Pair of Trousers. Paired with a white t-shirt and a check blazer.

Blazer (similar) | T-shirt | Trousers | Sneakers | Bag

If you follow the philosophy of throwing a blazer over whatever you are wearing to elevate the look, you won’t go wrong.

This brown check blazer I bought at the Zara sale a few years ago but both Uniqlo, and Madewell have a similar version.

A check blazer is a wardrobe staple for your fall and winter wardrobe.

Outfit 7: I’ve Got the Blues

Blue Sweater (gifted via Everlane)| Trousers | Blue Flats (gifted Via Everlane) | Blue Bag

There are several things that I love about this outfit.

The cashmere sweater from Everlane is in my favourite shade of blue.

Paired with some comfortable blue flats and a blue bag and you have a nice outfit that works for both the office and for play.

Outfit 8: Cape it Up

I am wearing the turtleneck bodysuit again in this look, but I paired it with the Cuyana Cape and some red heels for a little bit of colour.

I’m really enjoying finding ways to wear this cape, and I can’t wait until the weather cools enough that I can wear it more often.

Outfit 9: Some Casual Cool

9 Easy Fall Outfits Using One Pair of Trousers. Pair it with a camisole and moto jacket.

Camisole | Leather Jacket (faux leather option here) |Trousers | Knee-high Boots | Bag

Another thing about wearing wide-leg pants is that they are wide enough that you can easily wear high boots underneath.

I am wearing a pair of slouchy knee-high boots and you can’t see any outline which is perfect because they can be hard to wear.

Pair them with a silky cami, and a leather moto jacket and you have a great date night, or girls night out outfit.

I hope you enjoyed learning about how to wear wide leg trousers.

  1. I love the look of these trousers and have been trying to figure out how to incorporate this trend into my wardrobe but the problem I am having is the pant length when wearing flats – do they not drag on the ground when you are walking around?! I am having bad memories of my high school flared jeans with sneakers where the bottoms would drag so much they would start fraying.

    • These surprisingly don’t because that is an issue I usually have to deal with too. One of the reasons I really like these are because I don’t need to wear heeled shoes or get them hemmed for them to work properly. I also get flashbacks to the day’s when my flared pants dragged and not only frayed but also absorbed water up to my knees 😂

    • Thanks for taking time out of your day to randomly stop by an older post to share that with me. I appreciate it.

  2. Thank you for these ideas! I’m gravitating toward wide legged pants and appreciate seeing your outfits.
