I’m not sure that I would call this a regular series yet but I am having fun doing it. I keep going through my closet and I polled people on Instagram to ask what kinds of things people were interested in seeing styled multiple ways.

Last week I styled a Jumpsuit, and the week before it was a pair of pleat-front trousers.

I ordered this shirt dress from H&M a few weeks ago. Due to everything going on it took a while to ship but it arrived this week so I figured it was a good chose for this week’s “one piece styled multiple ways”.

It is quite oversized so I would go down 1-2 sizes. I went down one size. It is 100% cotton, buttons up the front, and has wide balloon sleeves that I prefer cuffed. It is not lined, but you can’t see through it.

This is the basic summer look. Throw on some strappy sandals and a cute summer bag and you complete your look.

This bag is from Mango from several years ago, but there are a lot of retailers that are carrying similar styles. I linked to one that is less expensive than the original one that I bought.

I also ordered this bag from Zara and think it will make a fun, colourful addition to my summer wardrobe that I will hopefully get to go outside and enjoy 😉

I really enjoy a piece that you can dress up quickly. Making Day to night looks are some of my favourites thigs to put together and something that I always keep in mind when I am making my capsule wardrobes and packing light lists.

A leather jacket is my absolute wardrobe staple that I can’t imagine not having. I have had mine for about 5 years now and I think I love it more than I did when I first got it. It’s perfectly broken in now.

Over the past few years I have become much more of a shoe person. I think maybe because we now have access to so many online options for buying second hand that shoes I previously thought were way out of my budget can be found actually below budget.

I found these Isabel Marant boots on Poshmark for about 1/8th of the cost new. They were a fantastic deal. It pays to keep search often. EBay is also a good place to look.

This is my favourite look out of the bunch. I love wearing a dress over jeans for a fun, artsy vibe. Tom bought me these shoes for Christmas. They have been on my wishlist forever and he surprised me this year with them.

I haven’t got to wear them much since it was winter, and now I barely leave the house. So I will take any opportunity to wear them when I can.

Throw a blazer over it is my motto. I actually have a post coming up in regards to this. An oversized black blazer and sneakers instantly casuals up the look.

The cuffs on this shirt dress can easily be folded up and over the sleeve of a blazer for some slouchiness.

I have had a pair of Converse sneakers in my wardrobe consecutively since around 1993. I also consider them a wardrobe staple that works really well with my style.

This is another instance of throw a blazer over it, but this time I paired them with knee-high boots (which are back in stock). This looks gives me more of a teacher vibe but I like it.

It is simple and easy to wear since these boots are really soft and have a easy to walk in heel I find I grab them more often than I do my boots that have a much higher heel.

I don’t like having to concentrate when I walk 😉

I haven’t worn a cinching belt in a long time and almost forgot that I had this obi style one kicking around.

It takes the casualness of the first look and polishes it up. These mules are again very comfortable with a similar block heel as the above knee high boots.

They are constructed with a stretchy knit across the foot that I find much more comfortable than the traditional leather you usually see mules in.

There is no breaking in necessary for these shoes.

You will notice that many of the same items are being mixed with each “one piece styled multiple ways” post.

That is because I don’t buy pieces to go with my new purchase. My new purchase is bought to go with what I already have.

This rule should apply whether you have a capsule wardrobe or don’t.

Stay safe.

  1. absolutely love the look you’ve done with the leather jacket, the isabel marant boots are the perfect complement to the outfit.

i agree, it’s so easy to lose sight of why you’ve bought a particular piece and if it even works with the rest of your closet. that’s something i’ve had to learn in the last year or so; not to settle just because it’s a nice colour, it’s got to tick all the boxes. definitely takes some patience to find the right pieces, but it’ll make you so much happier in the long run.

    • I was notoriously bad for that. I’d buy something and then plan out all the other things that I needed to buy in order for the outfit to work. It was such a waste of money.

I always make myself think of at least 3 ways I can wear a piece with what I already have before I will allow myself to buy it. I figure if I can think out 3 ways off the top of my head then I can probably come up with a lot more if I think about it.

It was really hard to train my brain to do that though 😬

  2. I love this series. Please keep doing more of them. I love the dress over denim look as well but I guess you need a pair of straight leg jeans right? And I seem to have a hard time figuring out the right place a blazer should fall. Sometimes I feel like I am lengthening my torso and shortening my legs with the oversized blazer look.

    • Thank you! These jeans are a straight leg with a 26″ inseam. A skinny with boots would also work.

As for the oversized blazer, I feel like if you size down you can still get the benefits of the oversized cut (like wider sleeves) but get a more fitted look. Balancing out the length by wearing a heeled shoe can also help 🙂
