I am not a very romantic dresser. I may gravitate to certain romantic style elements like lace, flowers, silk, and cashmere and incorporate them into my wardrobe but dressing with a romantic style is a struggle for me.

It is not necessarily out of my comfort zone, I just always pair it or combine pieces in a way that is me (as it should be) and the whole look may start off with romantic style intentions but the final reveal is anything but.

When I took my first class in fashion styling the very first thing we started with before anything else was determining our own style, because how can you help other people find theirs, or understand fashion without knowing how fashion works with you?

It was done in an extremely detailed and convoluted way, but it was really effective and worked in nailing it down.

Romantic was one of my lowest-ranking styles.

So it may seem kind of funny that I am focusing on making a romantic wardrobe today but bear with me because there is a method and reasoning behind everything that I do.

Even with this spring capsule wardrobe.

Building a wardrobe based on style doesn’t always reflect to the specific pieces. It is how you wear and combine the pieces that determine the style.

So that light blue sweater set can be very pretty, sweet, and innocent paired with a voluminous taffeta midi skirt, little kitten heels, and a tiny clutch.

But take the same sweater set, pair it with some oversized denim cinched and belted, lace socks, the same kitten heels, half scoop leather gloves, and a large leather clutch, and now you have an edgy look with romantic elements.

See what I mean?

This is why I am trying to drill it into your heads to become very comfortable with understanding your style because many of you would pass up that sweater set thinking it was too feminine or romantic looking.

By wearing it the way that works with your style and style adjectives it will completely change how the sweater looks on you and other people.

This is why fashion is so much fun.

You can make anything work for you and how you are feeling style-wise that day.

Some days you want to amp it up and your “edgy” adjective may come out to play, other days edgy is lower, and maybe your casual and Bohemian adjectives are stronger.

Style is a sliding scale.

You won’t feel the same way every day, so why would you dress the same?

It is about building an intentional wardrobe that allows you to accommodate this sliding scale.

With this romantic capsule wardrobe, it will appeal to people who have romantic or feminine as their style adjectives.

This will also work with people who have sporty, casual, or rock.

You will just wear it differently.

I put together 24 outfits that will be a combination of looks that are heavily focused on the romantic style, and others that have the romantic element on a smaller scale.

This is to work with those sliding scale days, and for the people who enjoy a sprinkle of romantic in their looks but it is not the focus.

Sometimes when I am writing these posts I type it out exactly as my brain is giving it to me so my thought process may come across as confusing or unclear.

If this is the case, and you would like some clarification please just comment below or email me and I will try to explain what I mean.

When I am trying to give an explanation about something, sometimes it is easy to forget that not everyone is fully comfortable with style or fashion.

And many of you have found me because you are just starting your journey and have questions, so I don’t want to scare anyone off.

I want you all to leave here feeling like you learned something or benefited from something, so if I have lost you somewhere please let me know and I will try to guide you back on the path.
