I don’t even know if you would call this a boho capsule wardrobe. It feels it a little more like a retro capsule wardrobe…or at least retro-influenced since real retro would be investing in some vintage items.
Maybe I should rename it Modern Boho, or Modern retro…I don’t know. I was all over the place with this one which kind of reflects me at the moment.
Or maybe it just reflects my brain after being in the house way too long 😉
I do feel that this one embraces several different eras with the 70’s high waist jeans and retro sneakers, and the denim and pink of the 80s, band tees and sneakers for the 90s all mashed together with a modern vibe.
But if I am being honest I based the whole thing around that jacket. It will henceforth be referred to as “that jacket”.
I wish I had that jacket in my closet.
That jacket that reminds me of a California free spirit.
It would be one of those wardrobe investment pieces that I frequently talk about (depending on your wardrobe budget). It also comes in three different colours.
I think I like the striped the best.
A band jacket has been on my wishlist for about 10+ years and I have yet to find the perfect one.
That jacket just might be it although I don’t want to pay the exchange rate, shipping, and taxes on it. Sigh.
Free People being a mall store here has not yet opened back up so I can’t even go in to see if they have them here. My guess is no, but I will remain optimistic.
It gives me something to look forward to.
I felt that jacket could cross several style eras but with a modern twist, therefore, giving me a lot of outfit ideas.
It is reminiscent of the SGT Pepper Jackets of the Beatles, but I can also see it with bell bottoms or a flowy dress with block heels or ankle wrap sandals in the 70s.
Fast forward to the 80s and wear it paired with a bustier type top, and bright pink shoes.
Then more of a 90s feel with the band tee or bodysuit, jeans, sneakers, and the crossbody that sort of reminds me of a tiny guitar case.
One of my favourite things about fashion is the ability to embrace all the different fashion eras within one closet.
I am not a believer in sticking with one style, I tend to be all over the place depending on how I feel.
Although I do follow a lot of 1940s style inspiration Instagram pages, so I am not sure what that says about which way my preferences lean 😉
If you are feeling like you are in a style rut…which many of us are currently feeling. Maybe try finding one piece that you absolutely love and base a mini capsule wardrobe around that.
It would be like a seasonal wardrobe refresher.
And speaking of a seasonal wardrobe, I feel like we went straight from beautiful spring weather to heat and humidity warnings in the blink of an eye and my closet is in need of a summer season refresher.
It’s like 6 months of winter, 4 months of a really hot & humid summer, and two months of spring/fall combined.
I have a lot of sweaters, and jackets, but not a lot of summer gear. I make do fine, but since I am not a shorts person I added some looser fit trousers which help.
I think I might try my own mini summer capsule, I just need to figure out a few pieces that I need to add to it to round it out.
Maybe a trendy piece or two…or maybe that jacket 😉

I love this one! So cute, Sara! I’m moving to San Diego in six weeks, so I’m definitely on the lookout for some cute, summer-year-round clothing. 🙂 Would you consider doing a capsule wardrobe made of only sustainable brands?
i’m going to be an enabler and tell you to go for the jacket. the way i reason with myself, i’d buy plenty of other stuff that would add up to the same $$ amount as the one item i really want, but not bring me the same amount of joy, so i might as well save myself the runaround and get the good stuff! it is on sale/promo at macy’s for $171 CAD, if that helps. i can totally picture it with a flowy dress and ankle-wrapped sandals like you suggested above.
Ha! My arm doesn’t have to be twisted too hard 😂 apparently they are also supposed to be at The Bay which is a department store here. Ours just reopened for shopping so I may go see if they have one to look at in person. Thanks for the Macy’s heads up because that is actually a much better price if the shipping isn’t too bad. And your right. The few pieces that I’ve splurged on are actually some of my favourite feel good items. Thanks for enabling 😂😂😂
