When it comes to building a women’s capsule wardrobe, I always find these edgy capsule wardrobes the easiest to put together. I think that is because they mirror my own style and the selections are pieces that I already own or own something similar.

This summer capsule wardrobe is a combination of things, that I have, I am getting, or are on my summer wardrobe wishlist. It’s like if I had to go through my closet and pull out everything that I am wearing or plan on wearing this summer, this edgy capsule wardrobe would be close to the finished product.

Give or take the variations in colour that I may have.

And speaking of colours, orange is a very bold and striking colour to use this season.

Summer Capsule Wardrobe Must Haves:

  1. A sleeveless tank with or without shoulder pads – Wish List
  2. Bodysuit – Have
  3. Oversized T-shirt – Have
  4. Sweatshirt – Have
  5. Wide leg, loose-fitting pants – Have
  6. Jumpsuit – Have
  7. High waisted, straight leg jeans in a light colour – Have
  8. Blazer – Have
  9. A few dresses in different styles – Working on
  10. A great pair of sunglasses – Have these exact sunnies
  11. Simple jewellery – Have necklace
  12. Dad Sandals – Have exact
  13. Your favourite Sneakers – Have but mine are blue.

I think that many of us can check off at least a few of these because they are common summer items, but if you are looking to have a really well-rounded capsule wardrobe particularly one that leans towards edgy then this list of 13 pieces is a good way to achieve that.

I went through and marked beside each one of the pieces that I have already, have something similar or are on my summer wardrobe wishlist.

I marked the jewellery as Have because today I ordered that exact necklace from Jenny Bird. It’s a popular style and just came back in stock which convinced me to jump on it because it keeps selling out before I could make up my mind.

Also, the fact that they offer After Pay made the decision easier since I like to spread the cost of things out. Jenny Bird is a Canadian brand and has a home base in Toronto.

They offer free same-day shipping within the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) if you purchase before noon. I think I missed it by a couple of minutes, which means that they will probably deliver it on Friday since tomorrow is a holiday.

I have to be careful with jewellery because I have a nickel allergy, and since this necklace is dipped with 14K gold I know that it won’t bother my skin.

I have learned the hard way too many times.

I can’t even wear my wedding and engagement ring because they are white gold which contains nickel. It’s funny though because I absolutely did not have this allergy until after I had my first child.

Pregnancy really does a number on you in so many little ways that you don’t even realize until after.

As for the sweatshirt, I have two Anine Bing sweatshirts that I have purchased over the last 3 years and they are two of my favourite pieces.

They both are grey (light and dark) and I really love the new colour variation in this Tiger print that I included in this summer capsule wardrobe, so it is currently on my wish list.

There are a ton of black jumpsuits out right now, and they are so comfortable especially in this heat. I suggest a loose-fitting one over something more fitted.

You can easily make it casual or dressy and it will be a piece that you live in. I have this one, but I am feeling partial to the above style. Not that I need multiples of a jumpsuit.

I didn’t include a button-up in this summer capsule wardrobe, but if I am being honest a way oversized button-up has sort of become my summer uniform.

I found one in tan at the Zara sale and while I probably could have sized down, I still love it. It is 100% cotton and very easy to wear. You can see it here.

When I think of edgy, my mind goes to the chic-edginess of Anine Bing’s style. She always hits it out of the park with anything she wears.

It’s like the perfect simplicity of classics with enough edge to keep it interesting. That is my ultimate goal to build the foundation of my wardrobe.

I’ll just add in the bold statement pieces as I come across them.

Stay safe.
