How to Build a Minimalist Summer Capsule Wardrobe

Summer weather is harder to dress for since you are wearing fewer pieces that cover less skin. I find that it is harder to put together unique outfits because of this.

So the key is to pick great pieces that you can dress up with shoes and accessories.

Scarves are a good way to add visual interest to a basic summer outfit especially if you have a minimalist summer wardrobe.

This summer we are focusing on using them in the hair.

Scarves come in so many shapes and sizes so having a variety of styles will be handy. Tie them around your ponytail (both high and low) and let the ends hang. Wrap it around a bun. Wear it over your hair.

It is an under appreciated accessory that we don’t often think to use but could add so much to a summer outfit.

I tried to stick with neutrals and summer fabrics, like linen and cotton to make it more comfortable. I also kept the footwear fairly neutral too, although the sneakers are blue.

These New Balance are a very similar model as my favourite New Balance that I wear all the time. They are the most comfortable sneakers that I have worn.

I usually like to incorporate some colour into my footwear.

The Zara sale starts tonight and it would be a good time to grab some sandals or flats in a bold colour. I got a bright green pair of flats from there that I love, and that add the perfect amount of colour to any outfit.

You should have a few summer dresses in different styles and colours. I love the chic simplicity of the white dress, but I have the pink dress in black and it is also great. You can see it here when we were going through a heatwave and the a/c wasn’t working a few weeks back.

As for the bags, there are some really standout It Bags of the season, and I included ones that are of similar design but much lower price points.

The black purse is reminiscent of the Bottega Veneta Cassette Bag, and the woven tote is the lower-mid priced that has a similar look of the Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Tote.

If you see an expensive designer bag that you love and can’t afford, chances are there will be a similar, less expensive version from another retailer if it is a popular style.

Being chic, or well dressed doesn’t have to cost a fortune. It is absolutely doable to buy your entire wardrobe from a fast-fashion chain, or second hand and still look a million bucks.

It is all about finding the right pieces.

I love to mix it up with new, thrifted, and high end mixed with low end.

Disclaimer: all of my high-end pieces are ones that I purchased from secondhand retailers. I do not have anything new that I paid full price for even though several of the pieces looked brand new when I got them.

So if you want to embrace the minamalist style trend this season with your summer wardrobe then this minimalist summer capsule wardrobe might be for you.
