I am back with a summer capsule wardrobe this week. I feel like I have completely skipped by spring on here, and kind of at home as well. It feels similar to the way we spent last spring.

It seems like I am not the only one, or maybe people are just getting hopeful because looking at my blog stats it is showing me that a lot of people are visiting and searching my site to look for summer capsule wardrobes.

I think that planning for summer is giving something for people to look forward to…even though I hate summer and would rather skip by that instead.

I decided that this may be the summer of simplicity when it comes to dressing.

For me at least.

I have a friend who said that she plans on wearing all the black shirts with shorts this summer, and after seeing her try some on I totally get it.

Pairing a black top with any kind of bottom is really chic looking regardless of the style of the shirt and I plan on taking that and rolling with it this summer season.

I am a huge topper person, and what I mean by topper is that I love wearing something over my outfit basics and that can be tough in the summer since it is often too hot to wear anything other than short sleeves.

I did include a light colour blazer which is an easy topper for anyone to wear and can instantly pull together an outfit, and/or bring an outfit from a day look to a night look.

Since I can’t be relying on a topper to add visual interest to my summer outfits I decided to keep it simple and chic.

For tops, all you need is a handful of them in different styles. I like the wide shoulders on the sleeveless tank, it gives a cooler vibe than a regular fitted tank.

A bodysuit is always a good choice. There are a lot of different styles you can go with. I am partial to a wide scoop that falls a little off the shoulder. It seems very romantic in a french way.

T-shirts are mandatory, as well as a good oversized button up. Blue is the preferred button-up choice this season. steering away from the usual classic white.

I threw in a wrap top for some variation. It is also easy to dress up.

I chose a loose-fitting pair of denim for bottoms because I can’t go without jeans in any wardrobe. Some cropped trousers, and wide-leg satin pants round it out.

I prefer dresses to skirts, but throwing in a skirt will give you a lot more outfit variety. This one is pretty.

T-shirt dresses are classic and standard for summer, but I also added a little something extra with the bold red-orange kaftan style dress.

I have been searching for a red dress and I love the shoulder texture on it. We don’t have this one in the Canadian H&M yet so I ordered a red dress from Zara. I hope it works out.

I said above that summer wasn’t for toppers, but summer weather can range greatly depending on where you live so I included a few. Blazers are mandatory wardrobe choices for me, so no explanation is needed. I chose it in white because… summer.

As for the cardigan, mid-length, batwing-ish style cardigans are out, and cute cropped length styles are in. Once again very french, and very Sezane.

There is no doubt that denim jackets are classic, but if your denim jacket is the fitted kind that you pair with floral dresses you are dating yourself.

Try oversized denim for a more street style vibe, and if you are feeling really adventurous, try it in a different colour than blue. Grey is always a good choice.

As for accessories, I decided to keep it simple again. Large linked gold chains are still in (as are dainty ones), simple gold earrings, and a bold scarf that you can wear a million different ways (my favourite is tied around your head).

Avoid the oversized sunglasses and stick with a more streamlined shape like cat eye, and straw hats? Try a boater style. Those white straw fedoras from the last many summers are also dating your look.

Keep a variety of summer bags at your disposal as well. One straw tote, one crossbody, and something a little dressier. Stay away from the envelope style bags that we all used to love to bring to weddings, try an acetate box clutch instead.

I think I am done with preaching the ins and outs of this summer’s style.

I hope you are inspired, and I hope you are well.

Stay safe.
