5 Spring Outfits that Transition to Summer

5 Spring Outfits That Transition to Summer Outfits

I am feeling very much focused on spring outfits that can easily transition to summer outfits this week. The weather has been warm, then cold alternately what feels like daily.

It’s frustrating and totally part of living in Canada, so you think that I would be used to it by now.

Fun fact: I’m not.

My husband and youngest daughter both run very hot so they thought it was a good idea to have all the windows (balcony door included) wide open today.

I froze.

So when the weather jumps back and forth like that I have a difficult time trying to figure out what to wear.

I don’t pack up my seasonal clothing to store away since I am usually kind of find a use for anything in any season except for winter coats and boots (which go in the front hall).

This means that there is always a full variety of things to wear, but for some reason this past week I have found myself not really knowing what to wear.

It inspired me to delve deep and try to plan out how I am going to transition some of my favourite spring outfits into summer.

Not that I am looking forward to summer.

Each set of outfits below focuses on one item of clothing and how I plan to transition them to summer outfits. The changes are just small shifts to switch out to more seasonal pieces.

Most of us have some version of these pieces in our closets already. I hope that you can find some inspiration to transition your spring wardrobe to summer.

1. The Midi Dress

I’m a midi dress sort of person. Maxi can be too long sometimes and mini is just not what I am comfortable wearing. This midi dress is a loose fit style that will transition nicely.

Wear it now with a blazer or light jacket, loafers with fun socks, and a colourful purse. Wear it in summer with your hair up, a nice simple necklace, espadrille sandals, and a large tote.

I need to up my fun sock game, I think I need to find some in more bold colours.

2. Joggers

2020 was definitely the year of the joggers. What used to be the secret piece of clothing that you only wore bumming around the house, got a makeover. Now there are stylish joggers everywhere.

For Spring I paired them with a Breton shirt, a colourful bag to break up the black and white, and some trusty Converse.

I kept the stripes but with short sleeves for warmer weather and swapped them out for a bright pair of sandals. Slick back your hair, put in some gold hoops, and grab a nice straw tote.

Who ever thought that joggers would be stylish?

3. The Cropped Trouser

I love me a good high waisted cropped trouser. This pair is a nice chocolate brown, and for spring I paired it with a cropped shirt, blazer, a large necklace, and sneakers.

To bring it to summer you could easily keep the cropped shirt, but I decided that I would like a looser wrap style shirt, paired with a tote that uses the same tones of brown, and the same sandals from above but in a different colourway (I have them in the black).

4. The Mini Dress

I said above that I don’t do mini dresses, but I will do them over pants. I have this mini dress in black and I plan on wearing it strictly over pants of various styles.

For spring you can pair it with jeans. Give a straight leg, lighter wash a try this season. Throw on some sneakers, a coat, and grab your bag. I was feeling very pink with this outfit but I plan to recreate it with the black version.

In the summer try it over some longer cut jean shorts, strappy sandals, and a large hobo-ish style bag. This would even look great with your hair pulled back and a nice scarf wrapped around for that boho look.

5. The Sweater Vest

This season the sweater vest came back in full force. If you were lucky, you amassed a collection over years of thrifting. If you never thought that would come back in style then you have an abundance of them to now choose from.

For spring I made it dressier and paired it with a linen blazer, jeans, heels, and some bright green accessories.

Since it is a knit I thought that in the summer you could wear it with bermuda style shorts, platform slides, cute earrings, and a fun tote.
