On Saturday I was checking the Vaccine Hunters Twitter page and saw that they opened walk-ins for people ages 40+ at the Shoppers Drug Mart down the street from me. I didn’t see it until a few hours after they posted it and was concerned that all of the vaccines would be gone by the time I got there.
The vaccine rollout isn’t going very smoothly here. There are so many people that have registered for waitlists in many different pharmacies and have yet to get called for an appointment.
Then there are the people who just happen to notice that particular pharmacies were accepting walk-ins when they just happened to stop by.
The fact that some individuals whose jobs it is definitely not have set up a website/Twitter to help people get vaccines shows you just how much of a shit show it really is.
I am thankful for them though because I went into that same pharmacy two days previous and they were not doing walk-ins at that time.
When I got there around 3:30 pm the line up was a decent size but I managed to get through the whole process in around 45 minutes, That was including the 15-minute wait at the end to see if you have any reactions.
I did have a rough night last night though. I have a fever from around midnight to 7 am, chills, headache, and my arm feels like I have been lifting a lot of weights.
But today I don’t feel quite as bad. The headache is still there a bit but at least the fever is gone.
On my walk back home after getting the shot, it felt like an immense weight was lifted off of my shoulders, and I had a little bit of bounce to my step which hasn’t happened in a long time.
I’m tired, sore, and bitchy but it was worth it.
Stay safe.
