I think that is the longest title I have ever used here. This week I am bouncing off of last week’s post How to Build a Fall Capsule Wardrobe with Neutrals because I received a message asking if I could do another fall capsule wardrobe using a cool colour palette.
I tend to use a lot of warm colours, especially in fall wardrobes because they are my favourite.
Out of habit, I gravitate towards them, so this week I had to consciously skip by them so I could achieve the capsule wardrobe cool colour palette goal for this week.
There once was a time where women really paid attention to their “season” or dressing for their colouring and built their wardrobes around that.
They often got a colour analysis/draping done to help guide them.
Many still do take it into consideration, but more often than not it is not in the forefront of your mind when something catches your eye.
The book Color Me Beautiful: Discover Your Natural Beauty Through the Colors That Make You Look Great and Feel Fabulous by Carole Jackson was the go-to book on this subject in the 80s.
It has since been revised multiple times to expand on it and modernize it.
I am aware of a handful of colours look best on me, but that in no way stops me from wearing any or all other colours if I like something.
I’d actually liked to get a colour analysis done to know for certain.
I just know that I look better in certain colours.
Except primary blue.
I don’t wear that, nor do I look good in it.
Many people don’t fit into an exact season which is why they revised the book.
There are a lot of people that are right on the cusp of one season and they will look good in colours from neighbouring palettes.
So if you really want to know, you should check out the book. It’s really informative.
Since online shopping is so available and seems to be beating out the brick and mortar store, I was thinking today how nice it would be to have this type of information on websites.
What if they had categories for the various colour palettes so that you could have the option of narrowing down your searches for pieces in the most flattering colours for you?
Doing colour by colour searches is too time-consuming, especially if you are not sure what you are looking for.
So having them by seasonal group or whatever way would work best would be a nice way to see all of the items they have to offer that might work best on you…at least colour-wise.
It could actually cut down on returns because I have been known to return something I bought online because the colour did me absolutely no favours.
It is something to think about.
Note: I have both the blue ballet flats, blue cashmere sweater, black boots, and the cape from this post. When I bought the cape it was actually a toss-up between this grey, and the camel.
I couldn’t decide.
Ultimately I chose the camel, but I would also really like the grey.
The puffer style leather jacket I included is also amazing. How many times have I wanted to wear my leather jacket but it was too cold?
This puffer style checks all of the boxes for me.
Remember: Colour analysis is just a guideline. There are always exceptions to the rule, and if you feel good in something wear it! Rules are meant to be broken.
