Two for the price of one this week. If you are looking for a mini summer capsule wardrobe, a summer wardrobe refresher, or even a packing list, this post might be for you.
I was indecisive about which way I wanted to go this week but I found myself putting together mini summer wardrobe refresher boards for myself so I thought I would go down that route.
I have recently reached a point in my own summer wardrobe that I am kind of bored with pieces.
I am going through and donating and selling stuff that isn’t making me feel my best or have not worn in a long time, and it is actually helping me to feel more inspired.
I don’t like to keep a huge wardrobe, but I am not a strict number sort of person.
I tried the 37 piece capsule wardrobe quite a few years ago and while it worked, it also felt like I was missing some wardrobe potential because I felt like I had to stick to a specific number.
I now go by the feeling I get.
When going through my closet starts to feel more overwhelming than inspiring, it is probably time to start going through it with a critical eye.
It can sneak up on you if you aren’t paying close attention.
Buying a shirt here, a pair of pants there, new shoes? Super fun!
Pretty soon you have no hangers left and going through your clothes feels like a chore.
So I recently reached the critical eye point, and have been going through my closet slowly piece by piece for the last couple of weeks.
I am to try to wear pieces that I haven’t in a long while and if I can’t muster up the inspiration to make an outfit for it then it is time for it to go.
I am pleased to say that I have quite a few empty hangers now, along with some shelf space.
I can take a step back to visually scan and see what I have without having to dig through a crammed rack and shelves.
These summer wardrobe refreshers are a small collection of pieces that all work together to be integrated into your current wardrobe to breathe a new life into it.
They also work well alone which you can see by the outfits ideas below each collection.
These would also make great packing lists for summer travel.
Adding a splash of colour, a dress in a style you don’t own, a pair of sandals that have a Chanel inspired look, or even a classic piece that you will wear on repeat a million different ways can be a real game-changer.
I kept each mini capsule wardrobe similar but in a different colour palette. I have one for those that prefer cool tones, and one for warmer tones.
I wear both because while I embrace dressing in your season I also think that you can look just as great, and even feel greater in a colour that is not specifically meant to compliment you.
Black is not in my season, yet it is the colour that usually makes me feel the most confidence.
So don’t cut off your nose to spite your face by keeping yourself tied to specific rules.
Rules are meant to be broken, especially in fashion.
