Yes, this is a winter capsule wardrobe. The weather here is leaning more toward winter than autumn right now, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we get snow soon.

I need to get myself in the winter wardrobe mindset so hence the jump from fall to winter.

Today I am talking about dressing androgynous and, and how to incorporate elements to make your wardrobe more androgynous.

The idea that a woman has to dress in a particular way to be considered feminine is outdated.

It can be so exhausting trying to live up to the expectations of society that clothes are bound to one gender.

In my teens when I was deep into Grunge, I had one friend who was much more into vintage 30s and 40s looks.

She was all about sweater sets, dressy trousers, little heeled shoes, clutch purses, and even little lace gloves.

I always felt like a slob when hanging around her, which was much more about me than her, and society only classifying one of those two looks as feminine.

I got over it and embraced me because if I tried to embrace her look it would have been very off.

My style always had and has masculine touches, and I realized that I can embrace being feminine while also wearing clothes that are traditionally reserved for men.

I’ve always loved Prince, and Bowie. And Tilda Swinton is one of my style icons. And to this day, Grace Jones still kills it. What do they all have in common?

Before I get into the details I want to show you my favourite fashion look of the week on Instagram. This is perfection.

Androgynous originates from the Latin word ‘androgyne’ and describes a mix of male and female physical characteristics.

I love a good lesson in Latin word origins. I always have time for that.

Androgynous clothing is often neutral-based, but not always which can be confusing. If your outfit is mostly neutrals then consider adding a splash of colour if you are looking to add a little something unexpected.

As a general rule, if you have a female body type then it is best to wear looser bottoms.

Think slouchy trousers, wide leg pants, and boyfriend jeans.

A looser fitting top is a good choice, but you can also pair a fitted tee or tank with an oversized masculine cut cardigan or blazer.

It’s easy to find masculine-inspired pieces in women’s fashion today but you can also shop the men’s section.

Especially secondhand shopping.

I included a sweater from the men’s section in today’s post.

Don’t neglect the accessories where hats and scarves which are already gender-neutral can really amplify your look.

I am partial to the driving cap, but I also have a few vintage fedoras that once belonged in the wardrobe of an old man.

This isn’t an all-or-nothing sort of look. Just like in any style you can borrow elements that work for you and the look that you are trying to achieve.

With Menswear, trends come and go over the course of years, rather than seasons, so maintaining a collection of classic menswear-inspired pieces will bring some longevity to your wardrobe.

This is a good thing

You never want to be a slave to trends. Building a whole wardrobe on trends is not sustainable and lacks personal style.

It will date fast, and you will have to continually be buying the newest trends to maintain that ideal.

Find your personal style.

There is a huge difference between being stylish and having style.

Don’t overthink it and be led by trends, because once you figure out your personal style, you will be set for life.
