After a year of consistently asking, I let Merle my 11-year-old dye her hair on Saturday night. She went with the same colour as my oldest which is a light auburn.
Which is also very close to the colour that my mom had for many years.
It suits her and looks natural because she has very pale skin with pink undertones, and she is so thrilled with how it turned out.
She even brushed her hair today without me having to ask.
We stayed up last night until 3:30 am talking about fashion and her style.
There has been a shift over the last few months where she has begun to show much more interest in selecting her clothes, and has started to show her tastes.
She told me that she had a style in mind, but she wasn’t sure what to call it, so we spent the night looking through online images, and fashion books of mine and have concluded that she is gravitating to a Parisian, or French Chic style.
It kind of has a late 80s/early 90s simplicity vibe too.
This Instagram account has a lot of looks that are the aesthetic that she is going for.
We discussed what kinds of pieces that she would like, and the colour palette that she is interested in.
So we are going to be looking for trousers, midi skirts, sweaters, button-ups, loafers, boots (she has a very particular style in mind), scarves, hats, different kinds of bags, and vintage jewellery.
The colour palette is browns, black, grey, white, navy, with some dark green, purple, and maybe red.
I have a trench coat that I bought myself right before I found the vintage Escada one that I originally wanted, and it has just been hanging in my closet taking up space.
So I let her have it.
We are going to spend some time sourcing the exact pieces she wants in both secondhand and new and build her a capsule wardrobe.
She has the right mom for this challenge, and I can’t wait to get started.
Now we are going to go outside to see if we can view the Super Flower Blood Lunar Eclipse.
