We have reached that time of the year that the happiness and excitement of Christmas have worn off, and we are now entering the doldrums of the new year.
Usually, I don’t experience it until February, but seriously, after this year every month seems to be the doldrums.
The sun is barely shining, it’s cold and grey. We haven’t had much snow yet, but the weather channel is saying that a polar vortex may be on its way.
That will be super fun :/
This is also the time of year that you can get really bored with your wardrobe, especially if you have downsized and find yourself wearing the same things over and over out of habit, convenience, or just plain lack of motivation.
I’m talking about the regular winter blues, not Seasonal Affective Disorder.
If you are suffering from SAD then you should talk to your doctor to get treatment because it can be serious.
A wardrobe refresher definitely won’t help.
Back to wardrobes.
When you have to wear a coat every day it gets kind of monotonous and you tend to stop giving a shit with what you are wearing.
You often stop giving a shit because who is going to see it anyway?
Hence the jogging pant, sweatshirt, pulled up socks, sneakers, and beanie I sported a few days ago when I went to the bank.
This goes back to the many previous capsule wardrobe posts where I talk about what you choose to wear can totally affect the way you feel.
I personally like wearing a coat, but mostly for the look and not the functionality.
I prefer a statement coat left open with a fun outfit underneath which really isn’t conducive to cold winters.
Having to drawstring your hood closed so your face doesn’t get pelted with ice/snow isn’t really my idea of fun…although my youngest enjoys it.
If you are currently feeling bored and uninspired with your wardrobe it might be a good time for a wardrobe refresher.
Just one or two new (or used) pieces that integrate into your capsule wardrobe to breathe some new life into it.
I’ve put together some winter outfit ideas below that might give you some new wardrobe inspiration.
Sometimes just finding a new way to wear something will be enough to inspire your dressing and affect your attitude.
I reused several of the pieces in a few different outfits so you can get a feel of versatility.
My favourite pieces are the wide leg faux leather pants and the long shirt dress.
We basically are starting lockdown 3.0 tomorrow. Not much has changed from 2.0. We didn’t even actually finish 2.0 yet before they are putting us into 3.0.
This time they are emphasizing that you are really, really not supposed to leave your house except for essentials.
It’s going to be back like it was in March and that really sucks.
Let’s see how well people listen.
Needless to say I am feeling uninspired.
Although I have signed onto documenting my winter capsule wardrobe from last week so it least it is giving me a reason to get dressed.
Otherwise, I feel like it would be straight up sweatpants, socks, slippers, and my oversized hoody that looks like it is about to fall apart.
And all that does is make me want to curl up in bed and go to sleep which obviously only makes the winter blues worse.
One of my recent wardrobe purchases is an Anine Bing Sweatshirt.
It has actually been getting a lot of use with my winter capsule wardrobe and I am very pleased with the purchase.
I’ve gathered some outfit ideas from me playing around with my wardrobe trying to find a new way to wear things.
Others are from great pieces that are on my wishlist or that I have had my eye on.
I tried to give a variety of outfits ranging from some dressed up loungewear to dresses.
Sometimes even just throwing on a dress will make you feel like you have your shit together.
And even if I don’t actually have it all together, at least I can look like I do.
I hope you are well. Stay safe.
