One Pair of Pants Styled 4 Ways

You know when you get an idea for an outfit or a specific piece of clothing in your head and it becomes almost obsessive to try and find it?

This started last summer when I bought a pair of high waist wide-leg trousers. I loved them and decided that I wanted a similar pair but in a more fitted leg, in a tan/khaki/light-mid brown colour.

I wanted it also to have belt loops. My wide leg pair does not and it was something that I wish was different about them because I liked the thought of being able to change up the look with a belt.

This turned into a year-long search. Which seems so excessive for a pair of pants, but I was absolutely not having any luck.

Since then I have bought and returned no less than 9 pairs that I had high hopes for. Several times I shared on here or Instagram a pair that I had been excited to order, only to have to return them because they didn’t work out.

I didn’t even find an “almost” pair.

More often than not the issue that I came across was the fabric bunching too much in the front crotch area which is not a good look.

Since what I was looking for had pleats in the front this was hard to find. Either the fabric was too thick to drape properly, or just plain too much fabric in an area and it puffed out.

At the end of March, I was gifted a pair of draped trousers from Everlane from their spring release and they ended up being what I was looking for.

I always get anxious ordering pants online because they are the hardest item to fit properly on me. I didn’t know what size to get so I read every single review on the site from their previous release of these trousers.

The consensus was that you should size down, so I decided that I would take a gamble and go down one size from my usual and it worked out perfectly.

Artist clay is the colour, and that is the perfect description. It is the exact grey-brown colour of wet clay.

Length of pants it another issue that I always encounter and these fit well.

They have a sewn cuff at the bottom, but I can cuff them a second time to have a more casual summery look and the cuff stays put.

It always sucks to have the cuff of your pants constantly come undone.

I haven’t been able to wear them much yet since the weather is still cooler, and I’m haven’t really left the house in 5 weeks 😉 so I decided to dress them four different ways with pieces from my current wardrobe.

Some of the pieces I paired them with are older or thrift finds, so I linked to similar items. My Anine Bing sweatshirt, which is one of my favourite tops is hard to find online. If you search on eBay or Poshmark you can often find one kicking around on there.

You need to check a variety of keywords though because I often find it listed as “Anine Bing Cobra Sweatshirt“, snake, and serpent.

Each of these will bring up different results. The tiger seems to be an easier one to find online, although I also really like the mock neck Revolution style.

And speaking of Anine Bing, I received a request for an Anine Bing inspired spring/summer capsule but more budget-friendly. I just wanted you to know that I got the email, and my mental wheels are starting to spin with some ideas.

My brain has only been working at about 35% for the past few weeks, so that may not be as positive as it sounds 😉

Back to sweatshirts, I caved this weekend and ordered this one (plus a t-shirt) from Urban Outfitters.

Nirvana has been my favourite band since the early 90s (I’m super loyal like that) and the print is the exact print of a t-shirt that I wore non stop during highschool.

I have no idea where that t-shirt disappeared to over the years and was pretty bummed that it probably was an innocent victim of an emotional wardrobe purge.

I am happy to be able to replace it, and they will get a lot of use.

I also had a coupon in my UO account that I didn’t realize was there since it was only visible on the app. I tend to do most of my online shopping on a desktop for some reason and end up missing a lot of special offers via using the app.

Using my desktop is a weird preference since so many use their phones.

I think I just like having everything big and the ability to have 30 different tabs open and easily accessed.

The Madewell Boardwalk sandals that I am wearing and included in the above summer outfit look a bit different than this year’s current model.

This is a style that they have been carrying for years, and they seem to change it up a bit each season, but it remains basically the same.

My sandals are from 3-ish years ago, and this year’s model has a toe loop which I like. The colours they offer are always cognac and black.

The white t-shirt I am wearing in the above suit combo is one of the best white tees that I have owned. It is super pricey for a t-shirt but I found it at Nordstrom rack for 70% off which made it an affordable price.

I also think that a white bodysuit would a great choice since you don’t have to worry about tucking it or excess wrinkling of fabrics.

I definitely could have put together a lot more outfits but I thought that I would save those for my daily wardrobe when we are finally able to leave the house.

I originally visualized these being just a summer trouser, but I am pleasantly surprised how versatile they are. I can wear them in any season, even winter with an oversized sweater.

Stay safe.

  1. Wow, these pants are super, super fly, and I really like how you styled them. OK, must go check these babies out. Cheers, Ardith

    • Thanks Ardith! I’m so happy that I finally found a pair that work on me. I was starting to think they were like the unicorn of pants that only existed in my mind 😂 now if only we could go outside.
