I’m fairly certain that my weekend ritual now consists of getting up before everyone on Sunday morning to watch the early uploaded episode of Outlander first thing in the morning in peace.

Nice and quiet with a cup of tea or three before anyone else wakes. I don’t get a lot of me-time, but I guess that can count right?

There was a big sale at Long & McQuade’s this weekend and we were going to pick up the girls’ a keyboard for Christmas because they both want to learn. It wasn’t until Saturday night that I realized we missed the sale, it was Friday and Saturday 🙁

I’d still like to get them one so I’ll just have to be extra vigilant in paying attention to sales. I know it’s only the end of September but Christmas seems like it is sneaking up so damn quickly don’t you think?

I put up a blog post on Saturday which I don’t normally do but I had a fall jacket round-up that I wanted to get up even though we are going through a heat wave (it was seriously 40°C with the humidex this weekend).

I got a few comments about how they were winter jackets, and maybe even too warm for winter where they lived.

I’ll be lucky to even make it through to Christmas being able to wear one without freezing my ass off so I envy you guys.

I do like a coldish winter but extreme cold is not a fun party. I’d be content with 0-5°C as the average winter temperature.

I mentioned in that post that I’m probably going to give Roo the Sorels I bought at Value Village last winter because she has asked me if she could have them several times.

I then plan on finding another decent winter boot for me since this winter is predicted to be cold and very snowy.

This city is excellent for keeping the roads and sidewalks plowed but when it’s in the middle of a storm or has snowed so much that it’s literally piled 4 ft high along the side of both the road and sidewalk it’s nice to have a good weatherproof/winter boot.

I’m thinking that I like these, but I’m also leaning towards this style. What say you? I probably should start saving now though otherwise I’ll end up with none 😉

This weekend I got into Mr. Selfridge on Netflix. So good.

I usually call autumn, fall but autumn sounds so much nicer. Is fall North American? I rarely hear autumn in real life, but I think I remember it more from when I was younger. But whatever you call it, it arrived in the northern hemisphere on Friday. And while I don’t usually post on weekends I thought it would be a good idea to get out some fall jacket round-ups even though the weather here is more like summer. So much so that we have hibernated and are keeping the curtains drawn trying to cut down on the heat in here.

I have a thing for faux fur. I always have, so I was super excited to see it in trend this year…or maybe not since now everyone and their dog is going wearing it, and what goes on trend must come off trend. I just want to wear fur without worrying about being off trend or on. I am obviously over thinking this.  Nevertheless it is nice to see so many faux fur options this year. I have eyeballed so many jackets that I can’t figure out which one I actually want. The leopard one from last week? A muppet one? Masculine style? Military is always a good choice. A Biker Jacket with fur collar (totally my style)? Or do I want to look like Fozzy Bear? Maybe.

I went through and pulled some of my favourites that I have seen in my favourite places to shop. The prices vary, but none should truly break the bank….or maybe they will because my bank is feeling awfully broke at the moment 🙁 I’m just thankful that both girls will fit into their jackets I bought them last year. Boots maybe another story. I may give Roo my Sorels that I found at Value Village (because they are a smidge tight. Completely wearable but they will fit her better and she kept stealing them from me). Then possibly find myself another pair because as weather forecasts go they are warning us that this is going to be a cold and extremely snowy winter unlike last year’s warmer than usual and dry. So a winter boot round-up may be around the corner.

Have you bought a jacket for Autumn yet?

I want to preface this post by saying that here in Southern Ontario as well as south of the border into the American East Coast we have had above seasonal temperatures. Quite hot and humid and actually more like the weather in the middle of summer. This should be noted when vacationing to these destinations any time soon. It is very important to pay attention to the weather up until the day of your trip because it can change at the drop of a hat and you want to make sure you have packed appropriately. Mother Nature is fighting back, and we shouldn’t be looking at historical trends in weather, but what is happening now.

I have been stuffy and sneezing like a fiend today and although the weather is hot, cold season is back in session and my little germies (kids) shared the gift of sickness with me. Bear with me if this doesn’t make sense, I’m blaming it on a mild fever 😉

First off; in the original post you will find all the pieces that I used to put these outfits together. I also have links to every piece under each outfit collage (top and bottom of post) for ease of finding. The fall packing list with accompanying outfits is for a Brazilian who is visiting New York, Boston, and Philadelphia in October for 16 days. Since she is coming from a warm climate I noted in the original post that bringing warmer pieces will be beneficial because it will feel colder here to her than it really is until she gets used to it.

I put together 24 outfits that will cover any occasion that may arise during the trip. Both the dark denim, and black pants are from H&M and are their Shaping Denim. I swear by these jeans and would live in them, but you do definitely need to size up because they fit small. I also think it is important to bring versatile pieces which is why last week and this week I included the tie-waist cardigan (last week was a black version). It can be left open to layer over pieces, but can also be belted and worn as a shirt. I also included a knit hat (or a toque as we Canadians call them) because in October while it may be nice during the day, it has the tendency to drop significantly at night so having a warm hat will be nice if touring around in the evening. Two pieces of advice: 1. when in doubt don’t pack it, and 2. wear layers and your harder to pack items for travel. They both will save space.

Right now (Thursday night) Tom is texting me about paperwork and Merle is watching her 40th episode of Peppa Pig, so I need to go figure shit out and get the kids in bed. Have a great weekend guys!

This week I have an east Coast packing list for the U.S. for 16 days in October. Since I live in Toronto I am in the same time zone and in the same general area as these locations so I can tell you what the weather will be like from personal experience if you are wondering what to pack for New York City.

October is my absolute favourite month weather-wise because of the cool temperature (but not cold), changing leaves, and general ambience of the month. It’s perfect.

This list is for someone who is from Brazil, so as with anyone who comes from a climate that is warmer than the place they are going to, it may take a bit to acclimatize.

For this reason I would suggest making your packing list for warmth because it is going to feel a lot colder to you than it actually is.

Sweaters (the above cardigan also belts and can be worn as a shirt), scarves, knit hat, and maybe even gloves are all going to be necessities.

Although we are currently going through above seasonal temperatures (it’s really hot and humid right now) I expect that October will be back to seasonal weather.

Sixteen days is easy to pack for if you pack smart. Make sure you have a colour palette for you travel capsule wardrobe, stick to things that you know are comfortable and you will wear.

You only need a handful of tops, a few sweaters, 3 bottoms, and one dress. Even if you don’t think you will be have any reason to dress up, it’s always good to pack something that will work just in case. And even if you don’t wear the dress out to dinner you can always layer it over pants for a fun casual vibe.

A variety of travel shoes rounds out the list but only 3 pairs maximum are necessary. A short or high boot, a walking shoe (I love these Golden Goose Sneakers even though they are expensive 🙁 and a flat/slide/Oxford or in other words any style that you think you will get a lot of use from.

Preplan your travel outfits and you should never have and worries of what you are going to wear. Travel outfit ideas options from these pieces can be found in this post. I hope this was helpful.

Is the weather unseasonal where you are right now?

SHOP THE POST

I was so excited to try ordering my groceries online for pickup this weekend for the first time. Sunday is usually my grocery day but I had a ton of stuff I wanted to do to get a jump on for the week. I planned on ordering them first thing Sunday morning and then sending Tom to pick them up in the afternoon when they were ready. I swear when I was first puttering around on the website it said that you had to order them at least 5 hours before pickup so when I tried to book a time slot this morning it said I had to have ordered them before 1 a.m. of the day I wanted them. So that was disappointing, and I had to go out and get them and didn’t get anything I wanted to get done at home. I have no idea why but grocery shopping takes a minimum of 2.5 hours here. Walk over, get sidetracked in the mall, get groceries, walk home, put everything away (and clean out the fridge). It’s usually closer to 4 hours, and then there went my afternoon of productivity 🙁

I still haven’t bought the faux fur jacket that I liked (you can see it in the above photo from when I tried it on last week). I really want it but I also want to save for a pair of Anine Bing Charlie boots (short or regular, I’m not picky) which is such a blogger cliche (that I am totally late to because you know? Broke.) but I have liked them  since I first saw them years ago and didn’t even know what brand they were. Come on this weeks’ llottery tickets, momma needs a vacation and a pair of Anine Bing boots (and if you are feeling super generous I’ll take that coat as well). Kidding, almost. I do play the lottery every week, and I would buy all those things if I won. I’ve never won anything more than $485 so I’m not holding my breathe.

The heat came back late last week and I am not happy about it. I’m just wearing my leather and sweaters out of sheer spite and protest while I slowly roast inside. Let’s hope it changes back again soon.

I recently started reading The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. From what I have read so far it is really good. It grabs your from the first page an holds on to your attention throughout. If you like time travel, and/or the medieval time period (in the time of plague) then I recommend it.

Have you read any good books lately? I’m always looking to add to my to-read pile.
