Union Jack Chairs and Minecraft

1. Tom sent me a text from work today. The small town they are filming in has an antique store that he said I would love and this chair is out in front. He said they hand painted it and I wish I was that talented enough to pull it off. This chair is amazing and when he said it wasn’t for sale I was disappointed. Roo would die if we got this because her everything UK obsession would be on overload. Wouldn’t this look amazing in a living room? Even if it was just a show piece and no one could ever, ever sit in it in fear of ruining the amazing paint job.

The Burden of Eating Healthy & Outfit of the Day 9

Outfit of the Day

Good lord the humidity kills me. I would rather have stayed home today but we were running out of something that is not good to run out of 😉 so there wasn’t much choice in the matter. The girls didn’t want to leave either and were being so slow and pokey that I wished they were old enough to stay at home. Especially since anytime we go and run errands together it usually takes no less than 2 hours when I have to bring them. I am so much more efficient on my own. Continue Reading

Canada’s Wonderland

Canada's Wonderland Mountain

Tom usually spends Saturdays catching up on sleep after working around the 90 hour work weeks he has lately. This weekend he had a 3 day weekend because of Canada Day (they worked Canada Day in favour for Friday off). We decided that because he had that extra day to recuperate we would bring the girls to Canada’s Wonderland for the first time. I haven’t been since 1998 and I remember it fully because it was the first and only time I have had a sunburn, so I slathered suntan lotion spf 60 on both the kids and I. Not Tom though because apparently he is too cool for school. Continue Reading

WTF Summer Colds? Outfit of the day 8

Capsule Wardrobe

All I have to say about summer colds is wtf? We usually don’t see colds until the end of summer when school is starting and sharing germs becomes a daily battle. Even though we homeschool we still seem to be affected by the back to school germ influx, so I don’t know where this came from. It’s not like they have licked public door handles and we wash hands thoroughly after outings. It was probably that moment when I said, “hey guys, can you please stop touching fruit that people are going to buy?” when we were grocery shopping. Karma for manhandling someone else’s produce. I just know that when both kids told me that they had sore throats within 20 minutes of each other that something not so fun was brewing. Continue Reading

Canada Day Celebrations

Canada Day

It’s Canada Day today so Happy Canada Day to everyone that celebrates. We are lucky to live in an area that has activities for most occasions in the walkable proximity. Today across the street we have some big Canada Day Celebrations going on so we headed over around 2. The crowds were crazy but there were lots of things going on and I was excited for them to see the trampoline demonstration and the cirque trapeze show. Apparently jumping back and forth over the sewer drain is more exciting though so that is what Merle did while we watched the shows. Starting at 6 are several concerts and fireworks at 10. Unfortunately our balcony falls on the wrong side so we have to go out to actually see them. Continue Reading

Value Village Haul

I just want to start by saying Congratulations to the U.S. for their Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage. I’m not American but I am a humanist. Equal rights for everyone.

I got an email last week saying that Value Village was having a 50% off pre-sale for its card members. Since we hit Value Village almost every weekend we were definitely going this Sunday, because 50% off super cheap is a fantastic deal. We decided to get up early and hit as many stores as we could across the city (we have a lot here). Tom was on a mission to find work clothes because his get beat to shit and need to be replaced regularly. I wasn’t looking for anything particular, just any good scores that I could find. The girls are always on the lookout for My Little Ponies, converse shoes, and Archie comics so everyone had things they wanted to get.

I know that it is months early but we have to stay one step ahead of this game. If we don’t then we will end up in panic mode and it won’t turn out the way we envisioned. What am I rambling about? Each girl has decided what they want to dress up as for Halloween this year. My kids love costumes so Halloween is big in this house. We try hard to make the costumes that they want come to life no matter how hard it may be. Last year was Doctor Who themed and this year they have each different ideas of something they want to try. They pretty much started talking about it right after they finished trick-or-treating last year.  Merle wants to be Cruella Deville because she is on a 101 Dalmations kick, and Roo wants to be the My Little Pony character Derpy Hooves. Now that they have told me what they want to dress as we keep our eyes open at the Value Villages to see if they have any pieces that we can use for costumes to slowly build our collection.

When I searched Pinterest for Cruella Costumes I found this one that is amazing. The child even looks a little like Merle (same attitude) and she could totally pull this off.
