A Quiet 11th Birthday

Roo and Merle

I found this one plus several other funny pictures on my camera that the kids took.

One week ago was my oldest daughters 11th birthday, and I suddenly feel really old.

In one way it seems like yesterday, then suddenly it feels like 100 lifetimes ago.

We aren’t big birthday party people here, we tend to keep it a special day with the family (except that year we did Chuck E Cheese and it was an absolute nightmare.

I also cut my hand badly on a game and that could have led to the nightmarishness of the day). I always let the kids pick one thing they want to do that day, sometimes it is movies, sometimes museums, sometimes just quietly hangout together at home. Continue Reading

Links and Life

This weekend was the Fan Expo in Toronto. This and ComiCon have become traditional things we do in our family since my husband and kids have  sic-fi/fantasy type interests. The last few times Roo went because there were Doctor Who actors that she loved who were doing photo ops. This year it was Harry Potter. I would have loved to been able to afford a photo-op trifecta with Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), and the Weasley Twins (James and Oliver Phelps) but it wasn’t doable this years so the girls got their picture taken with Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) even though Merle is obsessed with Ron Weasley for some weird reason. I need to find some place that sells a Ron Weasley replica wand because she really wants one for Christmas. So if you know where to get a good one message me or leave me a comment below. This is the photo.

Draco Malfoy

Tom said, “boy he looks different.” and I was thinking, “I hope so since he was only a child when he started the movies.” But he doesn’t have a great concept of time and probably thinks the movies are only 5 years old 😉  As you can see Merle wanted to dress up as a Weeping Angel again so and I won’t pass up an opportunity to let them get dressed up and enjoy themselves. Roo just wanted to dye her hair blue (somewhat, it’s more streaked) and wear a pair of wings. There was some really f*ing cool costumes there, especially a Minotaur one that was super tall and had a moving almost animatronic face. It was incredible and I wish that I had got a picture of it but I did find this picture of it on twitter. Continue Reading

Life Happens

Time goes by so fast and life just seems to happen some weeks within a blink of an eye. Yesterday was my Birthday. I’m not a big celebrating birthdays type of person. Even the kids get small family orientated birthdays spending the day doing what they pick out. So yesterday kind of felt like any old other day except I bought a few things for me which I find hard to do. Any one else out there got to a store with the intention of buying yourself something nice and then end up spending the money on your kids instead?

Happy Birthday

My dad is adopted. When I was in college my grandmother, his mother passed away. I was really sad for my dad because he didn’t have anyone left, aside from us obviously. His dad passed when my parents first married, he didn’t have any brothers or sisters, or close cousins. It was like that part of his life was gone entirely and it broke my heart. Continue Reading

We went to the mall this weekend because Roo’s iPad up and died on her. It wasn’t unexpected seeing she dropped it in the toilet (her fault for bringing it in there, but in her defence Merle kicked open the door and scared the shit out of her so she dropped it). I didn’t realize that they were totally not fixable though until the guy said the battery was completely dead and they can’t replace the battery but would issue us a replacement iPad for $220 since we were out of warranty. Nope, sorry. Continue Reading
