Can I just say how much I am loving these new Ikea bookshelves? They hold so much more stuff on them than the old ones, and I’m able to find homes for all the random things that have hung around with no place to go. We also purged quite a few big pieces this weekend and dropped them off at Value Village. The living room is now less cluttered and we actually have a decent spot to put the Christmas tree. You know you live in a small place when you have to get rid of an arm-chair to have a spot to put the tree;)
I have a headache the moment and wish that I could just go and crawl in to bed, but I promised that I would get the last shelf built today and since we were out all day it looks like it is my late night project. I think after 4 years this apartment is finally coming together, and now all I need is to get it all painted white so that is looks a little more spacious. The people before us painted the wall tan and the heating ducts dark brown so it looks really dark in here. I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea to paint something that you DON’T want to draw attention to such a dark colour.
*I bought that oversized black cardigan from Zara but returned it because it has wool and mohair in it and it is itchy. After I returned it I received a few messages on Instagram telling me how I could soften it to get rid of the itchiness so I am tempted to reorder it because it was exactly the style of cardigan on my wishlist. Do any of you have a tried and true way to soften up itchy sweaters?
Ikea was having a sale on their Billy bookcases (I actually don’t know if they were on sale but he said everyone was buying them) so while Tom was there to pick up one thing he returned with 3 bookshelves. Go figure. You can never come out of Ikea with one thing. Now we can replace ours that are so old they tilt if you bump them. I only managed to build one this afternoon because I don’t have any place to put the old bookshelves until this weekend when we can use Tom’s work truck to bring them to the donation place, but I wanted to try one out. These shelves are going to be awesome because they are much taller than the old ones which means more storage space, and they are white instead of dark wood like the old ones, so they are will brighten the place up a bit. I hope they are still on sale this weekend because we need one more in the girls room. The cat keeps jumping up on their current bookshelf and knocking everything over and there is no way in hell he will be able to jump on this one.
I’ve been sewing for a long time but I still am not really good at it so I always feel dumb wandering around the fabric store because I never really know what I am looking for. This weekend had amazing weather so Merle and I decided we would take a long trek and walk down to the Fabricland to see if there was anything for Roo’s Halloween costume. I found the perfect colour fabric for her dress which was regularly $32.50/m on for $8.50/m. When I was getting it cut though the woman told me that she thought it would be too thick for what I was using it for so I pretended I knew what I was doing and told her it would be fine, so I hope I am right :/ I do want it thicker because it is usually cold here on Halloween and her characters dress is kind of stiff looking and sticks out and I think this thicker fabric will give that effect. Fingers crossed that I don’t blow it. I’m also attempting to make a witch hat. This costume may turn out really good, or really, really bad.
The kids have started to rebound from their illnesses and I am not showing any symptoms yet (knock on wood). So the week should get back in to normal routines again.
