What I find fun is paying attention and taking note of things that I notice in fashion, which I enjoy and seeing what ends up becoming the pieces that catch on.
For instance, a few years ago, I noted that I thought it was time for the early 00s sports flats to make a comeback, following the typical fashion cycle.
Lo and behold, they came back in a huge way this spring and summer.
It doesn’t always work out that way, which is why I think you should wear what you love and not what becomes the next thing, because it will bring you more joy instead of worrying about keeping up with all the new trends.
But I also like to point things out that I notice, so first off, blue. Lots of blue ranging from pale to cobalt.
It’s just not the blue as a colour, though, it is the pairings I am seeing.
There is a lot of light blue and burgundy, and more intense shades with cognacs and browns, and these are colour combinations that I am excited to play with this fall.
For some reason, I am a sucker for the Simons striped sweater tops. I actually am a sucker for Simons in general, but I just realized that I have four of these striped tops in different colour combinations.
They vary between the traditional thin stripes, and the thicker, more rugby-style stripes.
The fabric is like a lightweight knit so it works more as a shirt than a knitwear piece, and I always size up in them.
So when I was on my way out of Simon’s the other day, there was a stocked shelf with a wide array of new stock striped tops in different colours, so I slowed to take a look.
This light blue and burgundy caught my eye, and I tried it on.
I bought it. I think it is going to give a nice preppy vibe paired with khakis or layered under jackets and blazers.
And the colour combination is one that I mentioned above, that I think we will see a lot of.
I also got this sweater last week because I really like this colour, which is often referred to as mole. It fits more like the pink version in the photos.
A boxy, looser fit, and soft, not scratchy.
Obviously I am prepping for fall now.
Next up are the high wrestling-style sneakers.
After seeing the leather wrestling boots at the Celine show, it kind of confirmed it for me that we are going to see similar styles worn with billowy trousers tucked in haphazardly, which thrills me.
I have the blue Adidas Rasants that I purchased a while back when I couldn’t stop thinking about them, (see, buy what you love).
Then last night I was scrolling through the new stock and saw the Japan H in black leather and had that same thrill.
I had enough Adidas points to trade in for a 25% off coupon, so I bought them at like 3 am, which I need to stop doing.
Maybe they will be my 46th birthday present to myself since it is in a couple of weeks.
Anyway, that is my long-winded way of saying that I *think* we are going to be seeing more footwear in this style in case you want to get a head start on it.
Oh, and I forgot to update you on the vintage lightweight jacket that I had purchased a few weeks back, that I wasn’t sure would fit based on the measurements.
It arrived last week and it does fit, which thrills me, and you can see it in outfit 3. It is from the 90s, and is Korean.
The jacket is unlined, so it is actually quite workable if you layer or can use as a more substantial shirt dress. It has a belt like a trench, but I also like it worn without.
It’s going to look great paired with the wrestling sneakers and tucked in trousers. See how you can make vintage and new work?
I am so excited for fall dressing.
