We are supposed to get a severe winter storm starting tonight, so today I wanted to go out and do some errands, and pick up a few things just in case the weather is bad for a few days.

The main thing that I wanted to accomplish was dropping off a package in the mail for something that I sold on Poshmark this morning.

I missed the damn post office by one person.

The guy in front of me had the fun job of telling anyone who came up that he was the last person they were serving today.

So now I get to go out in the storm tomorrow.

I just turned around and came home directly after that and said screw to everything else I was going to do.

I figure if I have to go out tomorrow anyway, then I might as well just do everything all in one shot.

Bah.

I shouldn’t have sat and drunk that extra coffee. I would have made it on time if I hadn’t.

I signed up for one class yesterday. I plan on signing up for the second one tonight.

Later this week I will sign up for the third once my Poshmark funds transfer over, and then the fourth class doesn’t start until the middle of February, so I have plenty of time to save for that one.

I know that everyone is aware of how expensive textbooks are, but jeez. It’s ridiculous. Even the horrible beat-up used copies are expensive.

There are a lot of rental options on Amazon.com for a fraction of the cost, but unfortunately, you do not have the option to rent them if you live outside the US.

I was able to find the first textbook that I need on Alibris today. It cost more than half the price of the class, but I ordered it anyway because this was the cheapest I could find it.

I am tempted to get an older, cheaper edition. I know that the pages won’t match up, but I would hope that the information would be mostly the same.

Knowing my luck, it would be completely different.

I forgot about how expensive school is, even when you are only going online and part-time.

But after these courses are done in the spring, I will have completed everything I need to “graduate” as a fashion stylist.

That sounds weird to say.

At 42, I will no longer be a jack of all trades, master of none. My college career consists of Museum Studies, Travel and Tourism, Retail Marketing, and some accounting.

I didn’t finish any of them, but I will finish this.

And this my friends, is exactly why I don’t think people should go off to college and university because it is the expected next step. I think everyone should wait until they are sure, and they are ready, no matter how long that takes.

Stay safe.

  1. Let me say congrats on your accomplishment I know it could not have been easy. As a 44 yr old im still tyring to figure what career will make me happy. I went to bartending school in my 20’s and finished but never used it went to college for criminal justice didn’t finish had a few credits to go but realized nah. i’ll use you as my muse and continue on my journey of self discovery.

    • Thank you. That’s such a nice thing to say. I’m not 100% certain what I want to do with it. If money was no object I would open a secondhand shop with a focus on styling and helping women. That’s like it ultimate dream. I’m going to have to really think about it.
