I went to the mall today to drop off some packages and returns and it was so chaotic that it felt like the week before Christmas. I worked in retail forever so I know the hell that is Christmas traffic, but this seemed extra hellish.
It felt like maybe people are scared because last year everything shut down right at the beginning of December and many people were screwed for Christmas shopping.
I feel like they may be starting earlier than usual just in case since our numbers are slowly climbing again.
The good news is that kids vaccines arrived in the country today so they should start opening appointments soon.
How do you feel about Black Friday Deals?
There are some retailers that I know have decent deals every year and others that I don’t know. Zara doesn’t do very many sales and I can’t remember if they had any Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals going on last year.
I’ll probably put a couple of things that I have my eye on in my cart and hope for the best.
I am dancing around a few things that I want at H&M not knowing if I should grab it or wait, hoping to get it on sale.
I’m really feeling this sweater because I love the side slits. I saw it on one of my favourite Instagram follows. I also love this coat. The colour of that coat is divine, and I love a great wrap jacket.
They look good on pretty much any body shape as long as you adjust the belt to the smallest part of your waist.
I feel like many places are waiting until last minute to advertise the sales and there are only a few that I know of for certain so far:
30% off Madewell with the code OHJOY
J.Crew has an extra 30% off sale style with code SALETIME, plus 50% off Holiday Party Ready items, as well as various markdowns throughout.
Up to 40% off at American Eagle right now. 25% off jeans, my flares included. I’m also kind of digging the plaid flares.
Levi’s has 40% off (applied at checkout) which is a fantastic deal if you are in the market for jeans.
I was able to get Merle the massive pencil crayon set from Amazon that she wanted because it was included in their early Black Friday sale. She takes drawing very seriously now and wants some better quality art supplies for Christmas.
Tom was supposed to be done work for the Christmas hiatus starting this past Friday, but they are keeping him working up almost until Christmas so I need to get the shopping done and organized right now.
There won’t be time for last-minute rushing.
And since both girls have birthdays coming up as well it makes it double fun trying to get everything done.
Merle’s big gift this year is a telescope.
She has wanted one forever, but we wanted to make sure we got a decent model since it is harder to see the stars from a balcony in the middle of a city and it will be something that she will have for a long time.
But if I am being honest, she’ll probably use it for spying just as much as she will for stargazing because she thinks she is some kind of sleuth.
Stay safe.

I’ve had all of my daughter’s presents done for a couple of months, even wrapped most of them. Normally I wouldn’t think about it until after American Thanksgiving is over and done, but thanks to the double whammy of Brexit and Covid there have been shipping delays and supply shortages, so the kiddo’s Xmas shopping got finished in October. Still got shopping to do for the extended family, but it’s all adults (and one newborn nephew) so they’ll understand if it’s a bit disappointing.
Her main present is an American Girl Wellie Wisher doll she’s been asking for. I found a new in box set on ebay with the doll, pajamas, sleepover accessory set, and a kid’s backpack with a special doll pouch on the front – even with international shipping it cost the same as the doll and pajamas on their own. She’s gonna be so excited.
That must feel like a big stress taken off your shoulders! Good job getting that done. She’ll love that doll. I’m still scrambling around trying to figure shit out. My youngest is hard this year for some reason. I usually have trouble coming up with ideas for my teen but I had a huge list to pick from of things I know she likes. I’m going to have to get creative. I was thinking maybe a sewing box full of fabric and supplies. She loves sewing. It’s sneaking up so fast that I’m panicking a bit. I hope you guys are feeling better!
