I am not sure why the US made a weekend that is for remembering those that died, into something that is so focused on sales, shopping, and celebration. It would be like us making Remembrance Day a big shopping holiday.
It’s weird.
Our long weekend was last weekend and was to commemorate a queen that is long dead, but we still didn’t get many sales or discounts. I don’t think we get in as many as the US anyway…or if we do they are not the same.
The Mango sale for instance is 30% off of $120 for the US and 20% off $250 for Canadians. The first deal is much more enticing to me, and I just might have jumped on the straw bag and earrings that have been sitting in my shopping cart for weeks.
But I won’t because I have to spend too much to get the sale. Not cool.
I was supposed to be finishing this post but I decided to clean and bleach the area where the cat’s litter box is kept instead.
That’s how much I was avoiding it.
If you are looking for sunglasses, these cat-eye sunglasses from yesterday’s packing list post are included in the Nordstrom Sale for $10. I like both the black and tortoiseshell.

i agree that the abundance of sales and deals on a bank holiday is a tad insensitive and takes away from the whole point of said bank holiday…ah, retail, what a fickle beast! one of the ladies who posts on j crew aficionada lives in canada, and she has figured out this crazy way of ordering from the US sites to get the better deals using a shipping service with a US address and having it shipped across the border. it’s a process, but it works for her in order to get the better deals.
on another note, i love the blue colourway of the h&m top, so i will be browsing my options online. the weather here has gone from chilly to humid and sticky seemingly overnight and i am in need of some looser, lightweight tops and dresses. i’m like you, shorts don’t hold that much appeal for me any more.
I love how there is a jcrew aficionado group. I’ve actually looked into those US sites before because in the long run it would save shit tons on shipping. Even places like eBay and Etsy get really price. Often times shipping is more than the product. I just don’t quite know if I’m a hardcore enough shopper yet to take the plunge 😆 it would probably lead to my husband buying more crap which is something that I don’t need.
I’m really digging how there seems to be a lot more 100% natural fibres available now like that blue shirt. I believe it’s 100% cotton which is so nice when it gets disgusting out.
It’s actually cooler today but I’m just waiting for the humidity to roll back in. It’s the gross sweaty sticky feeling, and stifling hard to breathe air that is the worst. I have lived in dry heat before and while it’s intense, it’s much more bearable than humid heat so I feel you pain.
I’m into the loose linen pant vs shorts now. At least the humidity slightly helps with the wrinkling 😂
ugh, i can commiserate on the shipping prices when i’m looking at UK online shops. either the amount to hit free shipping is ridiculous, or the shipping costs regardless are just too outrageous to justify.
i was pleasantly surprised with how many 100% cotton and 100% linen options that both h&m and zara have! once the humidity hits around here, it just zaps all your energy as soon as you step outside. it’s kind of pointless to try and bother with hair or makeup, so if you can at least have a nice outfit that holds up to the weather, it helps!
That’s what I was trying to explain to my husband. He likes heat a lot more than the girls and I. They have never done well in heat, and my oldest actually got sick from the sun/heat our first 24 hours in Barbados. Anyway, two weeks ago when it was disgusting out and our a/c wasn’t in yet it was so unproductive for those days. When my husband got home from his nice cold work he asked what we did that day and I was like, “just sat here trying not to move”. The heat makes me so bitchy and unmotivated.
I have like 5 pairs of linen pants in my baskets right now. I’m just waiting for all my current returns to get processed first 😆 I am getting sick of having to order everything online. 95% of it gets returned and I know that if I saw it in person first, I never would have ordered it. I’d like one or two pairs though because I think this summer is going to be a hot one.
