I know, I know. It’s only been winter a month and I am already jumping ahead with the spring capsule wardrobes?

Yep, because a) that is how the seasons of fashion work. The stores are clearing out of their winter stock and starting to bring in spring.

And b) I think we all need a little spring inspiration for something to look forward too.

I’m late to the posting this week because I figured Wednesday was too exciting to work on it, and tonight my teenager turned herself into a Weasley (dyed her hair orangey brown and it looks great), and my youngest cut a chunk from her finger making pompoms…which doesn’t look so great.

So it’s quite late tonight again, now back to the post.

I really like early spring when things are starting to turn green and grow. It doesn’t last that long here before the summer heat and humidity roll in (which I hate) but that brief window is a favourite of mine.

On a side note, it is a really good time to buy a winter jacket or boots for next year to set aside.

Jacket and winter boots don’t go in and out of style like regular fashion, especially if you stick to a classic style. If you buy now you won’t have to worry about it being out of style next winter.

It doesn’t really work that way with outerwear unless it is a VERY niche trendy piece. Even then it could be adaptable.

On a postive side, most of your winter capsule wardrobe should easily transfer to your spring capsule wardrobe.

All your layering pieces can now be worn alone or under a light jacket. Sweaters and sweatshirts won’t be hidden under bulky winter coats as the season progresses.

You can probably retire your winter boots, and bring forth your rain boots or waterproof boots.

I wouldn’t pack them away completely though beacsue if you live any place like mine, a sneaky snowstorm has the tendency to pop up randomly thoruout spring.

I have a shared this story before? I remember one time in collgere at the end of the year (which was April) we had a really unseasonally hot day.

Hot enough that restaurant patios were open, people were sunbathing, and shorts and sandals were busted out.

My roommates and I decided to hot the bar that night along with every other college student. I was wearing a tank top, long sarong skirt, denim jacket (the same one I still have) and some platform sandals.

It was 30°C when we left that evening, and when we came out at 2 am it was 0°C and snowing.

The walk home was horrendous. I don’t think I have ever been that cold.

Moral of the story: don’t pack away all your winter gear in the spring.

What to include in your Spring Capsule Wardrobe 2021?

First and foremost, while I love a long trouser I also really love to be able to wear a shorter/cropped pant because nothing quite says goodbye winter like being able to bare your ankles and go sockless.

I also love a cropped style jeans, or a least a style that allows be to have the option to cuff the bottom.

Pair that with a Breton top and some flats and you have the perfect classic spring look.

Which brings me to the Breton. I have a couple of Bretons in diffferent colours. One a traditonal black and white, and the other looks more 70s retro in brown.

While I don’t wear them as much as many people do, they are definitely a wardrobe staple piece, and they are nice to have on hand.

Now finding the perfect Breton the hardest part 😉

A variety of flats, or even just one great pair. Now that you can bare your ankles again, why not showcase them with a cute pair of shoes.

The red strappy pair above are expensive. They are my wishlist shoes, that I have wanted since they came out the first time around in the mid 2000s.

I actually stalk all the online used designer sites to see if I can find a pair either vintage or new.

I think I may save for them though.

Maybe for my birthday present to myself this year. I have a little over 6 months so if I am diligent and there are no surprise expenses, I am optimistic that I can set aside a little bit of money every once and awhile.

A trend for spring is the dad pant. I have the above pair on order from Zara and they should be here by tomorrow if it shipped today. I let you know how they look.

A great lightweight coat and a blazer are important. A blazer works well as a light jacket when the weather gets a little warmer as well.

It is also and quick way to instantly dress up any look. Throw one over a sweatshirt and joggers and you will see what I mean.

I’m pretty pumped to be able to bring out my statement jackets from the back of the closet. I have a vintage band jacket that I can’t wait to wear again.

In my personal wardrobe and style, I don’t think my wardrobe is complete without a leather jacket.

They come in a variety of styles and colours, but to me, a slightly oversized, black leather motorcycle style jacket is the perfect compliment to my style.

Whatever your style may be you can’t go wrong with any of the spring capsule wardrboe staples that I inlcuded today.

  1. Really great outfits. I’m thinking, “This is almost exactly how I would wear it. ” when I see these looks.

    • wow, your spring wardrobe looks like my winter one here in the ATL. Anyway, I love it.

      • Haha! Yes it definitely changes based on location. It doesn’t start getting really hot here until mid to late may. Until then it can feel damp and cool. I could easily wear some of these pieces into summer though (with some changes) and fall.
