I am writing this while Tom is in the bedroom (literally like 10 ft away) playing the banjo. It reminds me of the Dueling Banjos in Deliverance, which isn’t something that I want to be reminded of. Creepy.
I still have all of my CDs and mixed tapes from high school. It’s not something that I want to part with so I am letting Roo go through them to see if it inspires some new music for her.
She’s not allowed to leave them out of cases or leave the cases lying around so they get stepped on or there will be hell to pay 😉 Those things are relics.
I have most of them digital already but having an actual hard copy is just so much more of an experience.
Do any of you still have your old CDs kicking around?

i have an ok amount of cds and mixed cds that my friends and i made for each other. there are some that i had thrown away in a fit of insanity and looking back, i have no idea why i did that! i miss going to this one record store that was near a local college; they always had an awesome selection of music and a bunch of live recordings that would get passed around, the whole grassroots method. they would let you preview any cd and listen to it as well. the ones i did keep are tucked safely away in a box upstairs. i’m like you, the only option is keeping everything as is; i better not see a rip on the liner notes or a mismatched cd/case or it’ll kick off.
I’ve got rid of do many things in a fit of insanity that I kick myself over repeatedly. I’ve learned from that but I’m still mad at myself 😞 record stores were the best. Saving up to buy a CD made the experience even more special too. My husband once needed a case for something he burned and he went into my collection and took one from my cds. I was soooo pissed. Like a rip roaring fight about it 😂 he learned his lesson with that one.
I’ve been meaning to comment for a while now – you always include the BEST art and history related links in these weekly reads posts. I always find something to check out, but this week’s collection was especially good. The portraits article was fascinating, and oh my gosh, that London house!
History is my passion. Visiting museums and historical sites is my favourite thing to do, and I find that I gravitate towards these things online too. I have so many tabs open and bookmarks for them at any given time 😂 that house I exactly how I would describe my dream house. Everything about it from the windows to its quirkiness is amazing…except the taxidermy animals. They would make me sad.
My parents had a storage unit they were renting years ago, and when I moved abroad we put boxes of stuff I wasn’t bringing in there. After I moved the unit was broken into and several boxes were stolen. It was a quick hit, they grabbed the first few boxes they could get to and got out of there. Of course this was the most recently added stuff – my stuff. Hundreds of CDs just gone.
Except not, because all of them had been moved into CD books. So in actuallity they got a couple of old notebooks, one American Girl doll*, a couple of pairs of shoes and hundreds of empty jewel cases.
*Okay, I am pissed about this one, it was a Samantha! She is not a doll that can be replaced cheaply!
Oh man. This is why I don’t want to rent a storage unit. For some reason we didn’t check to see if a storage unit was included with our condo rental. Probably because we just assumed it was since that is the norm, but it wasn’t. So now we have a bunch of crap hanging around that has no place to go, and we discussed renting one but break-ins are a reason I wasn’t keen.
I’d be super passed about Samantha too. Ugh. I hate thieves so much 😞
