We just got home after being out for much out for the day and I’m going to say that I could have easily worn a beanie (a toque for my fellow Canadians). It was cold out, especially for it still being August. They are having a “Movie in the Park” night (Fantastic Beasts) for the last weekend of summer and everyone is in jackets, with blankets over their laps. We were going to stick around and watch it but decided it was too cold and went home to watch it there. I’m not sure how I feel about this 😉

Wednesday’s packing list was for fall, with What to Pack for Bordeaux and Paris (including a cruise) in October. If you head over to that post it gives some details of the trip but in a quick summation the trip is 14 days. The first week will be on a river cruise in Bordeaux, and the second week will be in Paris. The cruise has semi-dressy dinners, and one very formal evening in a which a formal dress will be required in addition to the travel wardrobe. This can be common for cruises so make sure you check.

Below is a breakdown of what pieces these outfits consist of based on the original list. There are 20 outfits that I put together with room to make many more if necessary. Laundry will be done on the ship so there is more than enough clothes here for two weeks.

Are you excited for fall, or are you mourning summer (for those of us north of the equator)?

Holy crap it’s the last official week of summer holidays here and it went just as fast as it did when I was a kid. How much panicking to finish things do you think I will do this week 😉 I hope what I do manage to accomplish is everything I intended but failed to do this summer. This upcoming weekend is Fan Expo which is like Comicon and has been our family tradition for end the summer for the last 4 or so years. I am assuming that Merle will want to dress like a weeping angel again. I think that is her go-to “cosplay” uniform.

Also a sign that summer is almost over is that the seasonal location of Spirit halloween is open. The girls have only been waiting since the day it closed after Halloween last year for it to open again. I’m not sure how many times you can activate a scary animatronic before getting bored of it but I am certain I am going to find out between now and Halloween. I hope that if Merle does it enough she will become desensitized to them so she doesn’t go screaming down someone’s driveway when one unexpectedly pops out at her on Halloween night like last year leaving me at the door to collect her candy. It also seems they have fully decided what they are going to dress up as, Roo wants to be a green alien possibly wearing a tie-dyed shirt (don’t ask) and Merle is going to be Wednesday Addams. I am also hoping that it isn’t too cold this year so they don’t have to wear 500 layers.

We went from hot as hell to cooler temps in the blink of an eye and this earlier than usual fall weather is making me nervous as to what winter will be like. We lucked out last winter and it was one of the mildest ones that I can remember and I am scared that this year is going to be the complete opposite just to make up for it. I guess it’s time to start pulling out the winter gear to freshen and launder it in preparation. Yikes that my mind is even contemplating that now :/ but for the last few nights the air has actually cooled down enough that the bedroom has been chilly. I’m kind of excited to be able to wear a beanie again soon though which makes hair styling easier and is my go-to winter look. I just have to remember where I stored them.

I’m going to try and finish all of my errands and running around that I need to do in preparation for next week before the weekend. I think I am even going to try and get the grocery shopping done on Friday because last year I attempted to shop on the day before school starting back up and it was a nightmare. I don’t know whatever the hell possessed me to even try it but holy crap was it chaos. The plan is to get everything done and slide in to the new week smoothly. Nothing ever goes smoothly here but I’m going to try.

Has any fall weather made an appearance where you live yet?

I’ve got this weird obsession. It’s researching/studying/watching videos on what women wore during different time periods and how they wore them. Like these videos on Youtube that show what it took to dress a women during different eras. I have no idea when the obsession began, but I do know it was way before the time of the internet so finding the information wasn’t easy like it is now. I bought this book in my first year of college. It was stupid expensive at the time (I think I paid $80 brand new) but I have flipped through this thing regularly over the last almost 20 years. I still refer to it when I am reading and I want to get a better idea of the fashion was like in that time period.

I probably should have found a career that could embrace the obsession. I did take museum studies with hopes to become a museum curator at some point but I think I would have done better if I could have specialized in the fashion of a particular time period. In my head I lean towards medieval because it’s my favourite time but I am also really drawn to the opulence (or as it is termed “Rococo” meaning florid or excessively elaborate) style of the 18th century French fashion. Since it’s now just a pipe dream I think I will specialize in both 😉 No joke though this here is my dream halloween costume.

Last post in What to Pack for Edinburgh, Scotland I talked about the common question that goes around the Instagram captions to generate some fun and conversation of “If you could move anywhere in the world right now where would it be?” I noted that my picks are always Edinburgh, London, Dublin, and Copenhagen as an honourable mention, so I made a packing list to Edinburgh to commemorate my choice (that reason and also someone asked me to). Today I have the 30 outfit options that work from those pieces. My picks weren’t for any particular season. It was more of a multi-seasonal list that I was envisioning to take you through different months with small variations.

If you hate subscribing to email newsletters but are more of a social media person then you can get all of my new packing list posts (and other things) from my Facebook page, and Pinterest. I update those immediately (or close to) after a post goes live. Instagram is usually my daily outfit posts or anything else fun I am inclined to share. Have a good weekend guys and I can’t believe we are rolling into the last week of summer before school starts here.

Do you have a dream career or are you already loving the dream?

I figured it out guys. I managed to get two twin beds into the girls’ room. We used every small area or weird shaped wall to its best ability and believe it or not there actually seems to be more room than before. We were finally able to find an Ikea Minnen extendable bed on kijiji and the guy ended up selling it to us for only $20 which is an awesome deal. Now this week I am planning on working on Merle’s duvet, and Roo decided that she needed a new duvet too but Star Wars, so I ordered her a Star Wars Pottery Barn twin flat sheet off of eBay to make in to a duvet as well. I was going to order her the actual duvet from Pottery Barn but with shipping and fees it was going to cost me $160 (sometimes it is so expensive to get things shipped from the U.S. to Canada) and I was not paying that much for a kids duvet (or any duvet actually). The sheet cost me under $30 after shipping.

Zara has some really gorgeous pieces for fall in their Nomad line. I kind of want everything because I have two gift cards that are bringing a hole in my pocket from my birthday. I ended up buying this cardigan (In sand) and this kimono sweater (in black)  to start but I want to sit back and wait to see what else is coming in.

On the weekend I subscribed to The Great Courses Plus and while the reason I originally got it was for Roo’s school. I also got it because I thoroughly enjoy the videos (especially the history ones). I am currently watching a 24 part lecture called The Black Death: The World Most Devastating Plague and it is fascinating.

I’m using the last two weeks of summer to really try to clean and organize the house. I feel like I completely missed the boat on this earlier in summer and I am trying to scramble around and get things done last-minute. Comicon is coming up on labour day weekend so we finish the summer with our favourite thing to do, and Tom is super excited because his idol Bruce Campbell is going to be there this year.

Are you cramming in a last-minute projects or fun this summer?
