What I Wore This week #ootd

Leather jacket • Zara | Girlfriend Jeans • Gap | Black Tee • Madewell | Slip-ons • Vans
Pink Blouse • H&M sold out (similar) | Jeans • H&M | Black Sweater • Zara
Black Pants • H&M | Purse • Urban Outfitters (on sale) | Booties • Winners (same)

I have had seemingly good luck with find things at Winners lately especially in the shoe department. I first found my Fryes which are my holy grail of shoes, and last week I found these tan booties for about $35. I mentioned that I needed to add some colour variety to my shoe selection because everything is black so I though a nice tan pair would be a good start. Next I am aiming for something leopard and something red. The heel on theses boots is quite low, and they are very easy to walk in. I have issues walking in heels. I think it is more of a self-conscious people are watching me so watch me trip sort of thing, but issues nevertheless.

Apparently I only took three pictures this week of what I was wearing. Whoops. Sometimes the days all blend and I miss a day here and there thinking I took one when I obviously didn’t. I also walked out of stores twice this week without taking my bag of merchandise with me. Memory issues. I did manage to get a couple of shots of the new girlfriend jeans this week (top two photos). I also received my new striped boxy tee from Everlane which I am going to try on to see how many things I can wear it with over the next few days.

I told my husband that the weather this week was looking like it would be nice because he was/is working outside a lot. He got up at 2:30 am today to go to work (he is in film and sometimes they start filming waaaay early) before you could tell what the weather was going to be like. I woke up to cool, overcast, and rain many hours later. He just texted me to let me know how miserable it was and he was basically working in a cold mud hole today. I feel bad that I forgot to mention there was a 70% chance of rain.

This weekend we did one of my favourite things, going to the flea markets and antique shopping. It’s not always successful but I found a few things this time like an old ABBA record that has all the good songs, and a vintage leather, weighted jump rope that is in awesome shape and will last forever. My regular run of the mill jump rope doesn’t even compare unsurprisingly. They definitely don’t make things like they used to.  I decided that this week I was really going to kick my ass in gear to get it ready for summer. When we went grocery shopping today I loaded up on only good things to cut out the temptation. That decision proved to be wise  because I was already pilfering through the cupboards looking for some kind of snack foods tonight. Ugh. I m my own worst enemy and have zero will power. I am trying the early to bed early to rise thing as well to see how that plays out with fitting exercise in better because I am truly running out of excuses. I am remaining hopeful.

Anyone else on the getting fit for summer train?

Five Things About Me

Mother daughter

Mother daughter matching leather jackets. Roo outgrew this coat and I had it sitting waiting for Merle to grow into it. It’s a little big but she likes to match me so she wears it. The matching phase doesn’t last long so I am going to embrace it while I can 🙂

After my boyfriend jeans Banana Republic debacle (so ridiculously large on me and not at all flattering) I have had several other boyfriend jean failures. I was ready to give up and stick with my tried and true skinnies but thought I would give it one mire chance. Last week I brought the girls to the mall because I want to go to Gap to try on some jeans. I pulled the exact style up on my phone so I could ask a salesperson since the last time I was in there I was rushing and couldn’t find what I was looking for. She showed me to them and asked what size I needed and when I told her she suggested I try a couple of sizes smaller. I was skeptical since I haven’t worn that size in years but was willing to trust her thoughts. They didn’t have that size in the wash I wanted so she offered me a different wash to try so I could test the size and they surprisingly fit. So with that in mind I decided I would order them online because she didn’t guarantee that they would restock that size soon. When I ordered them a few days later I saw that they were on sale for $36 cheaper which made it easier to submit the purchase. They should be here this week.

I thought I would start something new. Not necessarily a new blog series but something occasionally that reveals a bit about myself and maybe answer some questions that people may have and send in my direction. Continue Reading

Links and Things

Reading is one of the first things that I actively seek when I have some down time. That usually is between the hours of 11pm and 2am because if I try to stop and read during the day there is usually so much chaos going around that I end up reading the same page 10 times before I quit so it is pointless.

1. I downloaded the Kindle app to my 11 year olds iPad to cut down on the amount of book in the house. Honestly tons of books is a good thing but when they are taking over and you have no place to put them then reading an e-book sometimes is a better option (unless of course your truly love the book and want a physical copy). When I downloaded the app I warned her not to make any purchases without permission because it’s pretty easy to buy something with one-click. I did all that before bed, downloaded her the first book in the Chronicles of Prydain series and then settled down in to bed myself. Not 15 minutes later I get an email notification thanking me for signing up for Kindle Unlimited. So I went in the room where she said it “accidentally” happened. Since you get a free month trial I thought I might as well give it a shot so I searched out a book that was recommended based on my interests to see if it was available and it was so I “borrowed” it. I’m almost done and if you like historical fiction, specifically the medieval Mystery genre than I recommend the book The Colour of Poison: A Sebastian Foxley Medieval Mystery by Toni Mount. I am really enjoying it. Continue Reading

Life Lately

#threepiobuddha #threeepio #modilicious
My husband works a lot. Not just a lot but really long hours each day sometimes up to 80+ hours a week. So to say we don’t get a lot of family time is an understatement. What we always find time to do as a family is something that we all enjoy immensely, ComiCon or FanExpo. These each hit Toronto once a year usually in March and then again around Labour Day weekend. My kids love to get dressed up so we let them go all out in their own sort of Cosplay way and make a day of it. Sometimes there are people that they want a photo-op with sometimes there isn’t so we just go wandering around the vendors looking for cool stuff and checking out the amazing costumes. The girls decided to resurrect their Halloween costumes this year so Merle was Cruella de Vil and Roo was a Ravenclaw student dress in her Harry Potter garb (go figure). Continue Reading

House Cleaning, Languages, Teeth, and Jeans – Life Happens

First Lost Tooth

It’s funny how time flies by and you think “where the hell did it go? and why the hell does it seem like I have accomplished nothing during that time?” It kind of saddens me. Not that I want my life filled with non stop projects and accomplishments but sometimes I feel like I need to really buckle down and do something. My days are filled with kids, homeschooling kids, errands, housework, and then whatever time I can squeeze on here throughout the day. I just feel like there is never enough time to do things, and I keep saying, “tomorrow, I will do it tomorrow.” (that refers mostly to exercise which I always seem to notoriously have no time for.) My house is still a mess, there is always laundry to be done, and my kids eat the most basic meals ever. I need a planner, someone or something than can organize my life into manageable increments to get things done because most days I feel so scatter-brained.  Continue Reading

The Cruise Discussion

#sundayfunday

Taking advantage of the fact that we don’t need to wear a coat on #sundayfunday

I’m totally stating the obvious here but as I have mentioned 10 million times my goal in life is to eventually move and settle in Europe. Is is going to happen? I don’t want to say “probably not” because that would be defeatist so I will just say hopefully and keep my fingers crossed.  The cities that are on my shortlist are London, Edinburgh, Dublin, and Copenhagen. I have always been drawn to Copenhagen. Maybe it is my ancestry coming through (I am supposed to have a large part of Danish in my history but I have yet to do the ancestry.ca DNA test to verify that). These cities being on my shortlist for permanent settlement is why I am thinking about centring our next vacation around them. Also, Tom’s job is in tv/film so a move to England could lead to employment since they make so many awesome tv shows and movies there. One word (or three letters) BBC, most of my favourite shows come from there. Continue Reading
