Here is another episode of “Why are men like that”? I was in Simons today doing my usual tour of what is new. I just like walking through there; it is one of my favourite stores, and the men’s department is magnificent.
Anyway, I was walking past the shoes, and an older lady and gentleman were talking. It was more like her talking and him grunting, though.
He was sitting on a bench while she kept asking him, “Isn’t this a nice colour?” while basically hugging a vibrant purple sweater, and he literally wouldn’t answer her.
He just kept making little grunt noises and saying one-syllable responses like “sure” and sighing like he was annoyed, while she kept talking about it.
It was so obvious that she really wanted it and was waiting for some kind of acknowledgement that it was okay or that he at least noticed that she wanted it.
She had beautiful long silvery white hair and was wearing purple glasses that looked like it was the exact same colour as the sweater.
She obviously loves purple and wanted the sweater, but the asshole couldn’t even recognise that or, at a minimum, tell her to buy it if she loves it.
So I stopped and told her it was a beautiful colour that looked lovely on her and that she should get it because she won’t regret it. Then I looked at him with the “don’t even disagree with me, you fuck” kind of eyes.
She sighed and said yes, it was her favourite colour. Me, an outsider, could tell it was her favourite within seconds, and her husband, who she probably has been married to for 40+ years, didn’t recognise that?
This is why it is so important for women to have their own money in separate accounts. She shouldn’t have even had to discuss that with him.
Love it? Walk up to the counter and buy it with no regrets, nor wait for his permission.
I was so annoyed with him. Do better, men. She wanted a fucking sweater that was $30, not some $2000 designer item that would probably require a conversation about buying.
I wanted to buy her the sweater just to wipe the condescending smirk off his face and make him feel like the loser he was being.
And that is my rant of the day. I have no fucks to give anymore, and standing up for my fellow women against men is like one of the small pleasures I get in this life.
Try to have a good week, friends. And buy the sweater if you want it.
