This afternoon I was running some errands, and I passed this woman who was wearing some neon yellow sunglasses that made me immediately think, “oooh! I want some fun coloured sunglasses for summer.”
And then I made a mental note to search for a pair when I got back home.
I also happened to be heading in the direction of the mall, so I figured I would putter about and see if there were any fun ones to be found.
Honestly, H&M has been hitting it out of the park with sunglasses recently, and they are always inexpensive, which is great if you are someone who regularly misplaces their sunglasses, like my husband.
I am very vigilant with putting mine away properly and have yet to lose any…knock on wood, so I am comfortable paying more than he does (which is the cheap gas station ones).
The problem is that most of their sunglasses are in the neutral family. Sometimes you’ll find a bright yellow lens or something, but not exactly what I am in the market for with this specific search.
Although these are pretty awesome. I just saw them tonight; they must be new.
I have three pairs of sunglasses. A 90s-esque round pair with a gold wire frame, a large blue framed vintage pair that I got at a set sale from the Priscilla movie, and a cream colour cat eye by Celine that I found at a consignment shop about 5 years ago.
And while I alternate between the three regularly, I have wanted a pair in a fun colour.
Once upon a time, I had a vibrant red Versace pair that I sold on eBay a long while back. I should have held on to those.
I bought them in 2001, and I know this because they were from the Sunglass Hut kiosk that was located directly across from the skateboard shop I worked at.
Steven sold them to me with his Friends and Family discount, and he also later let me use one of his Microsoft Word download keys when I went back to school for some classes and needed access to Word and was too broke to buy it.
Because it was way back in the day when you had to buy physical copies of programs like Word or Photoshop.
And before you think that he had a crush on me and I was using him for what he could give me because of that, Steven was gay; he was just a good dude.
Anyway, that was a long-winded way of saying I want a colourful pair or two for summer because I hate loading up on accessories when it is hot, and sunglasses are one of my only summer go-to accessories that get everyday use.
So I scoped out a few pairs.
While these are not exactly a vibrant colour, they are my favourite colour, which isn’t always easy to come by, besides the small burst of popularity in the colour over the last year.
I have had my eye on them since before they started shipping to Canada.
Also, you can buy two pairs of sunglasses and save, and I wanted to replace my 90s round ones because I got the arm caught and it bent, and I haven’t been able to get it back to normal, so they sit a little crooked on my face, which is annoying.
And while I love the round classic Ray-Bans, I don’t want to pay that much. They are much cheaper to bundle with the green pair.
It’s like two pairs for half the price of most Ray-Bans, although I do have a small obsession with the Wayfarer puffer model. Ugh. I really like the yellow.
And I just realised on the Ray-Ban website they actually come in 18 different colours/combinations.
But I actually think red, though. To go back to my 2001 Sunglass Hut roots.
What do we think? I am heavily leaning on the green based on being my favourite colour, and the fact that I have wanted them for over a year, but do we like the red wayfarers too?
I feel like they would do the job that I want them to do. They kind of tell their own story, which I love.
One last thing, if any of you in Canada were waiting for the Adidas Stan Smith Lo ballet flats in black to come like I have been, Aritzia currently has them, and they are included in their sale at the moment.
They fit true to size in my opinion. Some people in the reviews say they fit large, but my regular size 8 in Adidas fits my feet, which are an 8 that skews to a large 8 due to long toes :/
