Today started off with a bang. I had a migraine last night that didn’t allow me to fall asleep because I was nauseous. Then, when I was just beginning to drift at 6 am, I started to smell something burnt.

I thought I was imagining things but my oldest came out of her room, and asked what the burning smell was. So we started to investigate.

It took me 45 minutes to figure out that it was the vent.

I hadn’t realised the room was cold enough that the heat was trying to come on, but since the heat is turned off for the season and the AC has not transferred yet the system was running on nothing, which was resulting in the burning rubber smell.

Honestly, I should have realised because it did it a few years ago, but I didn’t make the connection since I didn’t know the heat had tried to turn on.

Anyway, I had to sit with a wide open balcony door for a bit to air it out, which meant staying awake because I don’t trust the cats with just a screen door.

And the air was really cold, so that was not sleep-inducing.

By the time I got back into bed, it was 7, and I probably didn’t fall asleep until 8. So that kind of sucked. The headache is gone, though.

A few months back, I went into Mango and saw the fun socks that I have on in outfit 4. They have a cut-out toe and heel, so they work well in mules and open-toed shoes as well.

I thought they brought some visual interest, and I bought them in the black and the grey versions, but I wish they had some vibrant colours in for spring.

The day has all been a bit meh, but I did wake up to two Poshmark sales, one a big one, so that was nice.

Even though I have done a lot of window shopping and trying stuff on, I haven’t bought anything since my husband lost his job, not even secondhand.

And surprise, surprise, life is fine without packages arriving in the mail. I’m actually trying to downsize instead and really tighten up what I have.

Besides the mostly preloved and vintage goal, I want to have interesting pieces as well, which is a slow yet satisfying endeavour.

BUT, my kids did get me these shoes for Mother’s Day after hearing me talk about them. So there is something new in there to freshen up the vibe as the weather gets warmer.

Maybe I will get to wear them this week if it doesn’t rain too much, because mesh shoes and rain give me the ick.
