In yesterday’s post, I shared a mirror that I want to buy for my 14-year-old, and I said I wanted to get one for me as well. And that I would explain a bit further about the deal I have with her, and the room “makeover”.
We live in a 3-bedroom condo, but the third bedroom is supposed to be more of an office, so it is small. That is her room.
I think the dimensions are 7×8, but it is also not an actual rectangle.
The walls are weirdly shaped because this is a corner unit, and that makes furniture placement difficult in there.
There is basically only one wall that works for a bed, and then the rest of her furniture was kind of jammed in without much thought when we moved in.
She also has some problems with focus and getting the room cleaned, so I made a deal with her that if she achieves certain steps to getting to this goal, I will buy something to improve her room.
Things that fit the space and help with organization, so we can make the most of the space. It doesn’t even have a built-in closet, so a clothes rack upgrade is also needed.
Probably something like this one, because based on the measurements, it will slide perfectly into the only spot that one will fit. And it is tall; height matters in a small area.
It also reminds me of the one I bought from Ikea for myself, but on a smaller scale, and that thing is a champ.
So the first thing I got her was a new mattress topper from Wayfair Canada. I have had good experiences buying from there, so this is where we chose the items from.
I bought the same mattress topper for my oldest last year, and it is like sleeping on a cloud, which we love.
The 4-inch twin is the one we bought for both. You probably could work with the 3-inch if your mattress isn’t firm to begin with.
We are not firm mattress sleepers, but still opted for the 4-inch to make it the softest possible.
The second achievement is a full-length, freestanding mirror with accessory storage that we are still deciding on, but that one looks like the winner.
Storage is key to everything we bring in, and this holds a lot, which is why I want to get one for myself and my other daughter too.
The next achievement will either be a new desk with storage, or a separate hutch to put on her current desk. We also like this desk.
They seem to run in a similar price range, so a new desk might be best, since hers is from the 80s and in need of some work.
Storage is necessary because she has a gaming system, record player, and a CD player with records and CDs, books, and collections, which is a lot for a little room.
Although she does already have a separate bookshelf for her current collections. I bought this one a little while back because it is fun, but still holds a lot.
Then, to finish it off after she gets the room to where we agreed, we will search for some wall decor.
She is in the 1990s stage of band posters, and magazine cutouts collaged on her walls, so while we find old music and art magazines in the thrift store, band posters aren’t as easy.
I miss being able to go into a music store to buy them, so now we have to search online and see what we can find.
I think that is it…I told you it was a long story, which is why I couldn’t cram it into yesterday’s Dark Academia Fall Capsule Wardrobe post.
Anyway, this week sucked again, so try to have a decent weekend.
