Sometimes I like to go on a deep dive into thrift stores that are around the world to see what they look like and what they have. I’m talking brick-and-mortar stores, not just online.
The Japanese ones are the coolest. They are on my bucket list.
Because, as weird a goal as it might sound, one of my biggest dreams in life is to have an actual physical thrift/vintage shop. Which I have talked about many times.
A family-run vintage shop would be amazing, because both girls would be all over that since they love this shit as much as I do.
But it is almost like we have reached a point where in order to do something like that, you need to basically be rich. Life is fucked up like that.
And now with all the ridiculous tariff nonsense and the issues shipping to the EU because of so many stipulations they have implemented, it makes even having an online store for a regular person like me a challenge.
It narrows my market down to basically just Canada logistically, which is going to have such an impact on small businesses.
I am seeing this a lot with Canadian businesses that are really scared about the uncertainty and shifts they need to make now, after all these changes.
A shift that many can’t make, because you know…they aren’t a big business and can’t afford it.
It’s pretty crazy, though, and doesn’t really make a lot of sense.
Like France, for instance, implemented the new laws regarding fast fashion, and yet small businesses that sell vintage items that are not located within France might not logistically be able to ship to them because of all the expensive hoops to jump through.
I am talking mostly about being compliant with the packaging laws that are literally different for every EU country. If you read into it, it is pretty crazy and not feasible for an independently run business.
It’s very frustrating, and I’m sorry for the rant, but seeing the destruction of small businesses at a rapid rate since the tariffs began, and the takeover of large companies is pissing me off.
We need small businesses.
Speaking of, after my capsule post last week and discussing how suede is absolutely huge this upcoming season, I caved and bought a vintage chocolate brown suede jacket that I had been eyeing forever.
They are one of those sellers that pull the post once something sells, so I can’t link it to show you what it looks like.
But it has a similar vibe to this one.
Also, I dug out my kick flares this week (outfit one) and saw that they are on sale for $29 US and available in most sizes in several colours.
True to size fit. Comfortable and easy to wear. I like to pair them with oversized tops, and in the colder months, they are the perfect length for boots to slide under easily.
Also, if you are in Canada, Everlane has a Canadian warehouse now, and they ship really fast with easy returns as well.
Onwards, this past week felt exceptionally long, and I don’t know why. I also need to renew my health card, but I am waiting for a cooler day since the closest place is a bit of a walk.
And I am not arriving for my photo that I will have for the next five years, all sweating and melting.
I did manage to take some more photos for Poshmark listings today, which is where I guess I will be selling for the time being.
My hope is that now that we are all elbows up, up here, we will focus more on buying within the country, and Poshmark Canada will grow.
Especially now that most of us are broke, and secondhand shopping is becoming more prevalent.
Living in this timeline is wild.
Fingers crossed for an uneventful (in a good way) week.

Good to know about Everlane, I’m on the hunt for some black wool pants and have traditionally loved their pants.
Yeah, it was actually a game changer for me because there were so many things I wanted but it wasn’t easy to shop and return from before. Last piece I returned I think my refund processed within 48 hours. It arrived and was processed really fast. I am a big fan of their wool pants too and can’t wait to see what colours and patterns they have this year.
