I found myself watching a lot of 90s movies and TV shows this past week. I was randomly picking them as I went because I was looking for something comforting amid the chaos.
Not that 90s thriller movies are comforting, but the time period is for me.
It was like when I watched the videos from Spain and Portugal this week when they were going through those blackouts.
The people in the cities were just gathering in the centres to hang out, read, make music, and just enjoy one another’s company.
Honestly, I can’t see it playing out the same way over here. It’s just such a different lifestyle.
I am ageing myself with this, but during the big Ontario summer blackout from August 2003. I had just turned 24, and this vibe was present.
It was fun, besides losing out on work hours due to everything being closed.
Some independently owned restaurants and bars were running, though and they worked with candlelight, music, and merriment.
But that was the pre-attached to our phones years. It wouldn’t be the same now.
Anyway, I was watching the movies for a feel of that time, and maybe a little bit of fashion inspiration because we know I love 90s fashion.
90s fashion is usually my summer go-to.
Since last week was one of those weeks that felt like a month long, I needed a bit of comfort.
Part of the stress from last week was the broken washing machine.
Tomorrow, someone is supposed to come in and finish installing the new set so I can finally do the laundry.
It was supposed to be installed upon delivery, but they asked me if I had my new installation kit when they delivered it.
Ummm, no? I wasn’t aware I needed one.
So, needless to say they didn’t install it using the old setup since it was an insurance issue. That sucked.
And yes, I very much wanted to hook it up to the old ones, just to get it done because everything was there taunting me.
But I wasn’t sure that I had the drain line secured properly, and we all know how that would play out if I didn’t. It would be like that octopus sprinkler we used to love as kids, except in my home.
So I waited.
Fingers crossed they show up and I can have clean clothes again.
Now, off to go squeeze in another 90s movie before bed.
