When I was picking out some secondhand finds this week, I had the realization that I have yet to include any kind of household things.
I know I’m not a home decor account and most people would probably be horrified with the kinds of things we have in our home…like a 6 foot gold mannequin wearing a Paul Stanley costume.
But, I am sharing anwway. One of the things I love to do in thrift stores is find unique or fun pieces for our home.
I love glasses and bottles, little jars, stash boxes, figurines, paintings, picture frames, textiles, and furniture.
We actually bought my dream couch for $100 but it is currently in storage at my husband’s work studio until he gets motivated to fix the cushions like he said he was going to.
It’s been a while.
I digress. Another thing I like to buy is cool, vintage ashtrays. I’ve never smoked, I just think they are so interesting. Plus they make good little jewellery holders and catch-alls.
So the first one unlocked a childhood memory. My parents had a metal crab ashtray in the 80s. I think they also had a ladybug.
His shell opens and you can put stuff in him.
The second is a heart. A little morbid, but a lot of joy it brings me. I really appreciate pieces like this.
The Art Gallery in Toronto had an exhibition in 2017 for Guillermo del Toro and his monsters. It included replica of his library which is like my dream library.
The heart ashtray would fit in well.

As we are looking towards spring I appreciate a good vintage blazer. You can find any style that will work for your mood or tastes.
Here I have a dark blue velvet with a mandarin collar and little tonal elbow patches. It is very structured looking, as well as minimalist and chic.
On the other end I have something a little more campy because I think every wardrobe needs something campy.
This is vintage Fendi with a cloud print. I actually thought it was Moschino at first because Moschino does campy really well and this looks like a piece they would have.

Shoes! I found some more vintage Puma Speedcats, but this time they are purple. How fun for spring.
There are quite a few colours in the vintage speedcats but they go really fast.
Then I have some pretty amazing Miu Miu flats in patent leather with a music note print. They are pretty badass.
I *think* they might fit me but I feel like a 39 would be the best for me in this brand, unfortunately.

I have a thing for drop crotch pants and these are from Dries Van Noten in what looks like a deep purple-blue colour.
They would be such a fun summer pant with a tank top and little heels. Or in cooler weather with knee-high boots and a fitted turtleneck.
The fabric is a cotton and paper blend which is so interesting. I haven’t seen that blend very often.
Now for an amazing jacket by Comme Des Garcons. It is almost like a trench coat style but it has pleating that starts empire style under the bust and goes all the way around almost like a pleated skirt.
So cool, and a piece you will have forever.

One thing I always look for is an interesting detail in pieces, like the pleats on the jacket above. In this instance it is the band jacket-esque button front on this silk blouse.
I also have a thing for patent leather, and I had my eye on these Anine Bing flats when I saw them in the store online a while back.
The pointed toe and gathered ruching make them a step above a regular flat. They are a smidge too big for me but a really good deal.

This Patent leather Mansur Gavriel bag says it is a briefcase but it is not. It is like a handheld tote with a cute little bow. Not too big, like a small to medium size tote.
Behold the cutest little Gucci Jackie bag with pink suede, tan leather, and a bamboo handle. This is the perfect little spring and summer bag. I love Jackie bags.

Both of these next two jackets are minimalist but in different ways.
We have the edgy minimalist with the stand-up collar, asymmetrical button front and hem.
The other is more classical and traditional with a slim-fit vintage leather trench in a mocha brown.
Both of these will enhance any wardrobe, and both will never go out of style.

And for the last set, I have a twist to the traditional animal print pony hair flat with these Jil Sander flats in red. It makes them outside of the classic box which is always a fun place to be.
Then I found this beautiful silver rose brooch. It is stunning and a good size. I love a flower brooch but this one in silver is pretty special.
That is it for this week friends, I hope you are holding on okay.
Take care.
