I had to go down to the mall to buy some cat food and pyjama pants today (yes, it is a weird combination), so I thought I would do a quick run through some stores to see if there was anything good coming in.

Zara doesn’t have a lot of fall merchandise yet, but H&M seems to be getting it in by the day.

There were a couple of basic knit sweaters in a cotton blend that were in-store only items that caught my eye.

One was an oversized cream knit with side slits, another was a navy blue knit that hits the top of the hip (i’m really into navy right now), and the third was a black and cream striped cardigan that hits the waist and is somewhat fitted.

Buying sweaters is something that I always look forward to, so it was nice to see some in-store already for an affordable price.

There was a gold knit t-shirt at Zara that caught my eye, but when it comes to trends you have to really sit back and think over if this is one that you need multiple items in.

I felt like it was a cute piece, the metallic tone was subtle, and it was gold which I look better in than silver.

But I really have to be thoughtful to wear my money goes right now.

Since I have little to no disposable income due to my husband’s work being on hold during these writer and actor strikes, I can’t just jump on every trend.

So I passed up the shirt because I think that my money would be best spent elsewhere and on something with a little more longevity.

It’s always a good idea to really think whether a trend is worth your time and money to invest in.

Not every trend needs to be followed or will be for you, and that’s okay.

  1. About when does Zara actually start stocking for autumn? I’ve had a few of their basic sweaters before and really like them, I’ve been wanting to get a new one in black to replace my current one from French Connection (but a bit too bulky). I work.in the office two days a week and take a.couple of buses on those days. My first bus on the way home stops next to Zara so I’ve been going in while waiting for the next one and its so frustrating in there right now!

    • I totally agree that it’s getting frustrating, and I feel like they are later than usual this year. The remaining sale pieces still took up a huge portion of the store when I was in yesterday which was weird. It is a massively high traffic store and it was a confusing mess, and has been since the start of the sale last month. I feel like they should transition between now and the beginning of August, like maybe with the next online update we will see autumn product. August is the start of back to school shopping season and it doesn’t make sense to still be pushing summer. They usually do an update on Sunday/early Monday so I hope we see the transition this week. The amount of people still picking through the sale pieces yesterday was almost shocking.

      • At my local one the sale section is almost the entire first floor! Glad they should be switching over soon. I’ve got a half day on Thursday to see Barbie, maybe I’ll get lucky then, hahaha. Hopefully it switches over at the same time for us, my kid only finished the school year on Friday, if it’s our back to school it will be another month!

        • The kids go back to school here the day after Labour Day but in my millions of years I worked retail, the end of July/beginning of August became the bts push period and stores were flooded with new merchandise. I think the UK/Canada/ US Zara site all update and carry the same stuff around the same time give or take a week, so it should be soon and I’m excited to see what they are carrying. My absolute favourite shopping time of year.
