I read the book Fourth Wing when it came out back at the beginning of May. There was a lot of hype around it, but I was having issues finding books that stuck, so I didn’t have high hopes and just bought the download instead of hardcover.
I would love to have a physical copy of every book I’ve read, but we just don’t have the room for more bookshelves.
For this reason, I tend to only buy books for school and books or series that I love until I get my own library.
This was a big mistake because not only was the first edition special with sprayed edges that had dragons, but the book blew up in a huge way in a very short period of time and you can’t find a physical copy anywhere.
And to make matters worse, I ended up loving the book.
I couldn’t put it down and was down within the first 24 hours or so.
And now I wish I bought the special edition for my collection, but it is hard to find, and if you do find it people are asking $500+ for it.
So I will continue to kick myself, but I also learned from my mistake.
The second book comes out in November and because expectations are high for sales they are only doing the special edition in limited quantities.
I’m not certain if there will be different bookstores offering their own special versions, but as it stands the only one that I know of is Waterstones in the UK, so I pre-order my copy as soon as I learned that.
I’ll have to hold out for the hype to die down, so I can find a special edition copy of the first book for a more affordable cost.
Lesson learned Sara, never pass up buying a physical book.
