Motivation Sunday. I finally brought the bins of the Christmas decor back down to the storage room. Honestly, the storage room scares me and I have been avoiding it.

Not scares me in a creepy way, although it is creepy.

But in an overwhelming, holy shit we have a lot of crap, kind of way.

I’m going to enrol in my last college course this week when I get paid. I am excited to get through this and finally be able to say that I actually finished college.

Not just years of incomplete courses.

Museum Studies, Travel and Tourism, Marketing, and throw in some accounting classes just for measure.

Didn’t finish any.

This is why I am not pushing my girls to go to college or university until they want to.

Roo is 17 and doesn’t know what she wants to do, so what’s the point of going into debt just because?

She can always take some courses to test whether she likes something or not. That way she gets some classes under her belt that are transferable to any other school and not have to sign on for anything longer unless she chooses to.

I still haven’t done my taxes yet for this year, so I am kind of panicking and getting all my shit together to send to our accountant tomorrow.

I wish I could do it myself like I used to, but since Tom is a business, and I had to register for a GST/HST business number this year it makes things way more complicated.

I don’t trust myself to not mess up and end up getting audited.

Tax time is my least favourite time of the year.

Stay safe.

  1. I’m turning 40 at the end of the year and have only just decided what I want to be when I grow up – a sonographer/ultrasound tech. Preferably a travelling ultrasound tech.
I’m not going to start school for it yet though, ideally we’d move back to the States, it is just way to expensive and time consuming here. Back home it is a course that can be done at a community collegeo or trade school in about two years. Here it is at bare minimum a batchelor’s, possibly even a post graduate degree. And a single year of university here is about the cost of the entire course back home. I don’t have the time or the money for that nonsense.

    • Also, my mom went back to school when I was a kid. She was younger, in her late 20s, early 30 when she graduated, we were lucky enough to have family who were happy to help out while she studied, and she was aiming to go on to medical school to become a doctor, so she was happy to take more time for her education than I am willing to.
If I do go back to school it will likely be in a couple of years. My kiddo will be the same age I was when Mom went back.

    • Oh wow! That’s such a great goal. The way that schooling differs across other countries is so crazy to me. Is moving back to the US one of your long term goals too? I’d love to be able to move somewhere else but we are pretty stuck here. Since my husband works in tv and film there are literally only two cities in the country we can live in/around and that’s here and Vancouver. And while Vancouver is nicer, it’s also even more expensive. I think it sets a great example for our kids that they get to see us going back to school at an older age.
