We went to eight rental showings today. Eight. I am tired. It takes a lot out of you for actually not having done very much. Although we did walk a lot to the different locations because they were all within a 3 block radius of where we live.

That probably adds to the tiredness since neither of us have been getting very much physical exercise lately.

Once upon a time, I was really easy going, and we would take any place that checked at least half our boxes. Most of the time we didn’t even have any boxes to check.

Now I am a lot pickier. After living here for so many years I have really honed in on what I like and do not like in a condo rental.

Two bathrooms are a must. Enough wall space that I can hang all my thrift store artwork that I have collected over the years is also important.

As it stands they are all piled against the wall at the end of my bed because we don’t have much wall space here.

Having tiled floors in the kitchen would be nice, which I wouldn’t have thought of until this dishwasher leak. A leak across tile would be easier to deal with than a leak into and under the laminate that is spreading by the day.

I literally shut off the water to my entire until every night just to stop it for a few hours.

Tiled kitchens are not as easy to come by though. They love their wall to wall laminate here.

No carpeting in the whole unit is right on top.

About 3/4 of the time there is carpeting in the bedrooms because it used to be mandatory that 65% of the floor was covered by carpet to reduce noise.

That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

No carpeting is something else that I didn’t realize how much I disliked.

As for the 8 today, there were a couple of straight-up noes (no looks weird pluralized), a few maybes, and two that were a probable yes.

Funny enough, the head runner is in our building three floors down. It is 2+den and 2 washrooms. The den was originally intended for Tom so that he could put his collections and shit in there so I don’t have to live in what looks like a 17-year-old boys bedroom anymore :/

BUT, the den is big enough for a 3rd bedroom and has a door.

Which child would get the den do you ask? The answer is: The child that is the easiest to bribe.

That would be Merle.

The unit doesn’t have the nice stainless steel appliances that all the new builds had (this is an older building).

Nor is it painted white, but that is easily rectified. It is currently that horrible pinky-brown builder’s tan colour that my current unit also is.

We could paint that ourselves over a weekend.

Although I might be overestimating my painting skills.

I don’t have anything against colour walls. I actually really like a dark grey, or a green wall but it is a small space and the white would really brighten it up at first. Plus, the pinky-brown is atrocious.

Now the next step is that we put in an offer and hope for the best.

It has been on the market for a REALLY long time…8 months to be exact. That could either work in our favour or against us depending on why it has been on the market that long.

I am going to try to be an optimist (which goes against the very fibre of my being) and start looking on Kijiji for bar stools (for the breakfast counter), and desks for the girls which they will have room for if they are not sharing a bedroom.

I guess I just have to learn to love being surrounded by Star Wars and Horror shit.

Easier said than done.

Stay safe.
