Instead of what I wore last week which was a whole lot of undocumented sweatpants and sweatshirts. I decided that this would be a What I Wore This Year: My Top 10 Wardrobe Pieces of 2020.

In other words, the 10 pieces that I wore the most.

I’ll get back into the habit of daily outfit postings this week, now that the girls’ Christmas break is over and we will have some semblance of a routine again.

Some of these pieces are low stock or sold out now, but there are often other colourways or similar styles that would check all the boxes too.

All of these items I bought within the last year except the Anine Bing sweatshirt.

These are my most worn items in no particular order except maybe the sneakers. They were definitely my number one purchase.

1. Veja Rio Branco – These were part of the Veja X Bleu De Paname collaboration. The colour os Swedish blue which is far from the colour I was actually looking for.

I wanted them in the white, but my size was never available, but when I came across these I just knew I would love them. And they are my most worn piece of the year.

I haven’t seen them available in blue anywhere, but they do come in a whole slew of other colour combinations.

I find that they fit true to size, and unlike other styles of Veja, they were very comfortable and easy to wear straight out of the box.

2. Anine Bing Viper Sweatshirt – I bought this in spring 2019 and it was one of my most worn items in that year as well.

This sweatshirt is really hard to find.

It doesn’t seem to come up on Poshmark or eBay very often and when it does it sells quickly so if you want one you have to keep an eye open.

The tiger print is just as awesome and very easy to find new or secondhand, so that might be a good option if you are looking.

3. Shacket – I don’t actually have a stock image of mine because I bought it at Simons on sale late spring/early summer.

It was never available online, and I think that I bought the last one in the store.

I bought it before the fall shackets became popular and I even knew what a shacket actually was.

I actually consider mine more of a lightweight coat though, because it is lined.

I always get tons of compliments on it, and it was my staple until the weather got colder. I still wear it with a lot of layers it if it isn’t snowing or too cold.

I found this one at Zara and it looks a lot like mine. The colour combination is lovely.

4. Trousers – I bought these on a whim and I am so glad that I did because I have worn these on repeat since the summer.

They are quite lightweight which makes them perfect in hotter weather, but in the colder temps, I tend to wear them with a longer jacket or a sweater dress over the top.

The brown is no longer available but they still have them in grey. I purchased the grey last week and hope that I love them just as much.

5. Blue Button Down – Never underestimate a men’s dress shirt.

I wasn’t sure how well a men’s button-down would fit me, but I am a convert now. Men’s shirts are PERFECT.

They give that oversized, slouchy yet still put together vibe that I love so much. I just leave some buttons open and cuff the sleeves.

They look great alone as well as layered, and I chose a light blue vs a traditional white.

I may have to go for a white too though because while I have a white button-down that I love, I would like one in an oversized fit as well.

I am striking out with the oversized button-downs in women’s style. I hear the J.Crew Classic Secret Wash shirt for men is a good one to try.

6. Turtleneck Sweater Dress – Early fall I was looking for a sweater dress that would look good over trousers.

I saw this one and liked that the neck wasn’t too high, and there were slits up each side to make hang better over pants.

This was a winner. The knit is soft, it is a great length on my shorter self, as well as looks good over every single pair of pants that I have tried.

I haven’t actually worn it as a dress yet, but that really isn’t my thing so it doesn’t matter.

7. Black Turtleneck Bodysuit – I decided last year that maybe the hatred I had for turtlenecks my entire life was unfounded so I gave them a shot and I became a turtleneck lover.

This year I decided that since I like to layer them I would like it in a bodysuit so that it layered smoothly.

I found this one and it immediately became one of my go-to pieces. It is currently sold out but may come back in stock based on its popularity.

This one also appears to be quite similar in fit and style.

8. Abercrombie Jeans – For the last year all I have heard is “you need to try Abercrombie jeans, they have changed a lot over the past couple of years.”

I tended to shy away from Abercrombie because I thought they were for a younger demographic, but apparently, they have expanded in that department.

I saw this style in the curve version on someone on Instagram and really liked the way that they fit.

BUT since I don’t fall into the curve category I gave the regular fit a shot. I also went for the regular inseam since they were already a cropped style.

They fit well and have the perfect amount of stretch without stretching out of shape as many other brands do.

9. Standard Black Sweater – You would think that since I like to focus on wardrobe staples that I would have had a standard black sweater.

I didn’t.

I had oversized black sweaters, or turtlenecks sweaters, a cardigan, but no crew neck perfectly fitting black sweater.

It was actually a wardrobe hole that I didn’t even realize that I had until this year.

Now that I filled it, I can’t see how I ever didn’t have one.

10. Cuyana Cape – You don’t see many photographs of me wearing this because I haven’t left the house tons this year.

It did get a lot of wear at home though.

My youngest child runs hot like her dad and always has the windows open regardless of the outside temperature.

I on the other hand am always cold. I wear slippers 365 days a year, and socks to bed even in the summer.

This cape has become a regular item of mine and is always in the vicinity of my desk.

I can’t wait until I can wear it outside more often.

It would also make a great travel cardigan (it fits kind of like a cardigan/shawl/wrap).

Well folks, these are the top pieces that I have gravitated to this year.

I often wear them layered in conjunction with other pieces because I like to try to come up with new ways to wear things.

I think this is the first year that I have actually documented this. It was eye-opening.

Except or the sneakers. I already knew they were the clear winner.

Check out below for a collage of the different ways that I wore the above pieces this year.

Stay safe.
