Weekly Reads and Finds

Do you know how I always rave about Niki Whittle’s styling abilities and her courses? She asked me if she could feature me on her new blog series regarding Style Your Shape.

I answered a few questions for her about my experience in being a column shape. You can read it here if you want 🙂

Gutenberg editor for WordPress has been out for a few years now and I have been too scared to switch over.

I never wanted to take the time to learn how to use it, but took the plunge. Tonight is my first Gutenberg post.

I can toggle the large initial letter on or off, but I kind of like the whole reading a book vibe that it gives.

I’m kind of testing the features as I go so you may see wonky things until I get the hang of it.

I figured since they are depreciating the Classic Editor plugin at the end of 2021 I should probably start to use it. It may actually take me that long to figure it out 😉

So I did it. Finally.

I moved the living room around.

It is still totally messy in here and I will have to finish it tomorrow. But I started at 8:30 am and went until 7:30 pm.

It was a lot more work than I thought it was going to be.

It didn’t help that the city shut our building’s water off from 8:30 – 7:00 to fix and pipe outside. Since there was no water I couldn’t wash the floors down after pulling up the carpet.

That’s tomorrow job. Now I am going to bed.

Stay Safe.

  1. congrats on the blog feature! side note, i can’t believe your girls are 15 and 9 already, how did that happen? i appreciate your honesty in the interview, and acknowledging that putting together outfits is still trial and error, even when you know what styles work best for your body shape. you wear cropped pants so well though, so lucky that you don’t have to bother with getting them hemmed!

i wanted to thank you for the shoutout about simons department store. i had been searching for some home goods and was very particular about what i wanted, and simons had it! i am anxiously awaiting their delivery but now i wish i would’ve thrown in some clothing as well.

the colors and pattern of that bathing suit makes me so happy, i would totally pass it off as a bodysuit if i could. i’m also loving the dress and thinking that i shouldn’t wait on it like i did the tie-back dress that hasn’t come back in stock 🙁

hope you can get the rest of the living room cleaned fast enough to enjoy the rest of the weekend. i had a similar job the other weekend moving the furniture and rug in our master and dealing with the cleanup; i didn’t realize how much cat fur and dust bunnies were hiding underneath!

    • I can’t believe they are 15 and 9 too. Almost 16 and 10. It’s crazy. I literally have friends who are the same age just starting to have kids. I guess I started really young, even though it didn’t feel like it.

I generally fly by the seat of my pants for most things in life so trial and error is something that I use often all across the board. Sometimes this really great outfit idea will pop in my head and when I try it, it is awful. I recently bought both a black, and white t-shirts from H&M that have a really big collar. My goal is to layer them under all kinds of things to have the collar hang out. We shall see how that pans out. They haven’t shipped yet, and H&M seems to both take forever to ship, and sell out of things fast, so definitely jump on something when you see it.

Simons is one of my favourite stores. It’s like a department store but is a smaller scale and less pretentious feeling than Nordstrom. It’s my teenagers favourite store too because their teen/college age department is like walking straight into 1993 which is right up her alley. They have unique home pieces for good prices which I also love. I found some great cat print bedding there for my youngest. It was actually a flannel sheet set, but I sewed them together to make her a duvet cover because she wanted a cat duvet. It turned out great if I say so myself 😉

I fell you on the cat hair. It is everywhere. I didn’t finish everything today but it’s getting there. It is much better than yesterday which is a win in my book. I ran out of motivation and momentum though.

  2. One of your links is to a ” publication unapoligetically for black & brown women”. As a white woman I would like a heads up before I click on your links. Since they are basically telling me I am not welcomed there. Same with PBS and their ‘Monarcs”.

    • Which article specifically offended you? It most definitely could not have been the one about the nostalgia of department stores and all that came along with it was it? Simply because it was written by a black writer? THAT alone offends you? I for one, appreciate a person who takes the time to share articles written by all different people/cultures. That’s how you grow as a human. Also, lets not forget it’s her blog so she can do whatever the hell she pleases and owes you absolutely nothing.

    • I wasn’t even sure how to respond to this at first because it really surprised me.

Let me get this straight. You as a white woman expect me as a white woman to coddle you so you feel safe when reading articles like we are some special white woman club?

Have I made it unclear where I stand on this subject?

You want a trigger warning for these in the future? Something like wpw (white privilege warning) so your very obvious white privilege is protected?

This is a space where privilege gets checked at the door. And if you can’t do that then feel free to let said door hit you on the ass on the way out.

      And PBS? Really!?

Best (but not really, I’m just being polite),
      Sara
