SHOP THE POST

Well, if anything, this week showed me what an abysmal collection of loungewear I have. I only have 3 outfits this week (and those were pretty half-assed) because the other days I was sporting some pretty raggedy looking, threadbare pieces.

You would think I would have realized that before this week, but being stuck in the house has given me the opportunity to see just how bad it really is.

I never really noticed before when I was just putting on comfort wear to bed, but when I found myself cringing from embarrassment when I had to open the door for a grocery delivery I realized that it is need of a little overhaul.

My exercise gear it pretty bad too, just saying 😉

I am a firm believer that you feel and are more productive when you get dressed every day, so I am going to put together some cosy, casual, yet nice outfit ideas sometime this week that reflects that belief.

I should probably take my own advice and upgrade my loungewear at some point because this stuff is beyond help. I’m pretty sure I have lounge pants that were in my hospital bag from when I had Merle.

In the third outfit photo above, I am wearing a pair of shoes that I bought at Zara 3-4 years ago. I wore them once and then they disappeared. I found them this past week in my closet kind of wedged behind some stuff, so I gave them a go.

I’m not really sure how I feel about them. I am leaning towards no.

I have a small Everlane post going up early next week that is focusing on a few pieces from their spring lineup. I know it’s not really a good time for sponsored posts, but I agreed to it before everything happened this past couple of weeks.

They have some really nice new basics coming in, as well as new colours in some old favourites. Their $50 denim deal finishes tonight at 12 EST (9 PST). I really like the look of their flares, but they would be way too long on me. It would be worth a try if you are tall.

Do you have and lofty goals this week?

  1. I love the top and trousers combo in the third picture, but, yeah, not so into the shoes.

  2. Isabel Marant!!! How did I miss the fact that these are her boots??? If there is one designer I’ve been fangirling for a while, it is she. Now I’m even more impressed by your selection of these boots. And I’m totally envious.

Hi Annie! I agree with you (and Sara) about that third outfit. Those flats are cute, but the straps look wonky.

Anywhohow, loungewear rules (as long as it is in good condition and makes you happy) and is a silver lining to the current state of unplanned staycation. Cheers ladies, Ardith

    • Yes they are! This is the reason why I bought them off the seller that screwed me, because she was literally the only one who had them on the Canadian site.

I think maybe I misplaced these shoes on purpose because I’ve always been kind of meh about them. I think it’s because the straps are supposed to be loose looking but I have narrow feet so they look excessively loose 🤷‍♀️ I don’t know. Maybe my teenager will want them.

On a positive note I dug out my super roomy, black jumpsuit from last summer and it makes a great loungewear option 😂

      • I think I may have “misplaced” a couple of pairs of shoes myself, now that you mention it. If I did, they may well have come from H&M. I had abysmal luck with their shoes. Perhaps yours will in fact migrate to another closet nearby.

It’s cool that you do have a nice loungewear option. My current selection is a pair of black leggings. Luckily, I bought four of them to rotate.

  3. as i’m working from home for the first time ever, i’m still trying to keep a beauty routine of sorts while also wearing either yoga pants and fleece pullovers or something from my ancient collection of soccer shorts and soccer practice t shirts. my salon just announced they’re closing until the end of April but i don’t trust myself to touch up my hair color on my own (i went red a couple months ago). i need to force myself to do a pilates dvd during my lunch break, but mostly i just want to sit back and give my eyes a rest from the computer screen! i don’t have a desk, i’ve just been sitting on the couch or the floor doing work, so even wearing jeans just doesn’t sound comfy to me. i don’t want to buy things out of boredom or to break the monotony, but i have been considering at least a cute cardigan. i love your zara wrap sweater, but i’m afraid it will look too cropped on me and nowhere near as good as it looks on you!

    • I hear you on the monotony. I’m finding my husband being home all the time is totally throwing my daily schedule off too 😂 it’s a definite adjustment.
As for the cardigan, although it’s listed as cropped I don’t find it cropped at all. I’m short but my torso isn’t short so it may work for you. It’s easily adjustable for making it looser or tighter too. I just find it a great price, a really nice knit, and such a simple piece to wear so it may be worth a shot.

I’m kind of looking forward to seeing how some of these influencers look after a long duration of their beauty shops being closed. No eyebrows, eyelashes, nails, or Botox either. They may actually start to look like average people again 😂

I dye my own hair because I’m cheap and don’t like to be touched 😬 but I totally get you not want to mess with red. It’s a hard one to work with, and a hard one to get corrected if you mess it up.

      • Hi Lisa and Sara,

You two bring up some great (and humorous) points. I guess it’s a good thing I never went with botox, extra eyelashes, etc. I’ve just watched my face shift slowly. I hope that means I won’t have to wake up one morning and scare the bajeebers out of myself when I look in the mirror, because everything suddenly fell to the floor in one fell swoop.

I also finally, over two years, let my hair grow out into what turns out to be a rather fetch shade of champagne silver. I’ve even had the nerve to hack it a bit myself. I feel so brazen.

Well, you two have made my day, so thank you. Enjoy your evening in your respective relaxicab gear. Cheers, Ardith

  4. sara, thanks for the extra info on the cardigan. i may end up giving it a go as i think the color will work well with my skin tone/hair color. my husband is working from home as well, but so far it’s going ok. he does a lot of teleconferences and emails are constantly pinging, so i just try to tune it all out. luckily we have our cat to keep us entertained, but at this point she’s probably the one more fussed by the interruption in her daily routine than we are!

ardith, happy to help spread some cheer! i don’t understand the appeal of botox, fake tans, fake lashes, etc either. who knows, maybe the isolation will have some people reprioritizing their lives and deciding what’s really worth it at the end of the day…either that, or there’ll be a mad rush of over-botoxed faced to compensate for what they missed out on for months, haha.

  5. Hi Sara — I’ve been following your blog for a while now, and I love it. I’ve gotten to a point (between your inspiration and Anuschka Rees’ “Curated Closet”) where I’m pretty happy with my wardrobe (though there is always fine-tuning to be done, isn’t there!) I’m a bit stymied with loungewear/sleepwear. I want it to reflect my easy, edgy-ish style, but COZIER. Do you have any suggestions about where to start shopping?

    • Hi Erika, I’m probably a bad person to suggest loungewear because mine are all pretty beat up 😂 I tend to wear joggers, band tees, leggings, and oversized button downs a lot. I also like a good plaid or sweatshirt to pair with those too. If I’m feeling like I look like I just rolled out of bed and I need to go out, I’ll just wear a blazer and throw on some sneakers. I like a good oversized t-shirt dress ass well. Mostly what I wear daily just swap jeans for leggings or slouchy joggers. – Sara
