I have a few What to pack for Scotland, What to pack for Ireland, and What to Pack for England for early autumn queries sitting in my inbox right now. I thought I would get a jump on them today with a Scotland packing guide.

Instead of doing a separate United Kingdom packing list (or Ireland packing list) for every country in the British isles. I am hoping that since they all fall around the same time that this one travel capsule will help to give some packing inspiration to the others.

Unfortunately I just don’t have the time to do one for every country/city requested destination so I try to combine some when they are similar to accommodate as many people as possible.

The weather in the United Kingdom in late September and October is when it starts to cool, but before it gets too cold. In other words the perfect travelling temperature for many tastes.

Most people who travel to the UK don’t stay in just one city for the entire duration.  They will often plan an itinerary to hit up many different cities across the isles due to their relatively close proximity. This means you will experience varying temperatures and you should plan your travel capsule for mixed climates. This means things that will layer well so that they transition through weather changes.

The first item on your travel wardrobe list should be a jacket…..or two. It is a good idea to pack a warmer jacket and a waterproof jacket. There is a high chance on any given day that it will rain in any city across the UK at this time of the year. A waterproof jacket, and maybe some waterproof boots are good to add to your packing list.

There are a lot of really nice waterproof boots nowadays that are regular leather boots vs rain boots. So if you are considering what shoes to pack for Scotland you may want to include some waterproof footwear. To avoid the bulk of a rain boot, you may like these for your Scotland travel capsule (Blondo has many different styles and colours of waterproof footwear as well).

The weather in England in September is warmer than Scotland in September, so if you plan on venturing south, packing for layers will give you a lot of options. Keep this in mind if you if you are going to be travelling to London or surrounding areas during the same trip.

Weather unpredictability is a huge reason why people never know what they should pack, and therefore end up packing their whole wardrobe. Always check the weather forecast before your trip so that you create the best travel capsule wardrobe for your destination.

  1. OMG, I would TOTALLY wear all these clothes, woman. I’m supposed to be finished with my overall capsule wardrobe, darn you. Now I have to go check these puppies out. And I already have my eye on a pair of high waisted, fitted cropped cargos with elasticized ankles at Forever 21. They look so cool. Sigh.

Hope you’re having a mighty fine week. Cheers, Ardith

    • P.S. I bought this white crinkled blouse (@https://www2.hm.com/en_us/productpage.0713692001.html) from h&m and it is as pretty in person as it is in the photos. I love it.

P.S.S. Their sizing system is as bunk as the older version. I thank myself for ordering the right size.

      • I absolutely LOVE that blouse. It’s gorgeous. I love that it has that elastic gathered waist that would tuck really well in to high-waisted pants. I would be tempted to get it in black as well.

I have been living in a linen blouse this week, so I have some wrinkled chic going on 😉 I need an effortless blouse that doesn’t look like I just rolled out of bed.

For the most part I do well ordering tops from H&M. They always seem to fit more or less the same, but the pants is where I struggle. I refuse to order pants online from them because they sizing is so all over the place. It makes it tough when they have certain styles that are only sold online. They were supposed to fix the sizing so this is disappointing.

I’m on a mission to find a mid calf boot that is tight almost like a sock boot with a low heel. I want them for fall so that I can wear them under my Levi’s that all have cropped length. It would suck not being able to wear them due to lack of proper footwear.
