Are you going on a European vacation this summer for a month, and don’t know what to pack? The average length for most North Americans taking a European vacation is 10-14 days.

This european packing list is for a one month trip in summer. It is not for a particular country or city, but for those that plan on going from city to city and much slower pace.

Packing for a month long trip doesn’t mean that you need to bring your whole summer wardrobe. It means that you have the opportunity to perfect your packing light technique.

With the proper pieces and planning you should be able to downsize your travel wardrobe to fit into a carry on suitcase.

Summer is the most popular season for European travel for many obvious reasons. Although I dislike the summer weather, most people prefer to travel in it because it is easy and predictable.

But when you are travelling for a whole month across many different countries you need to plan for mixed climate packing since there is much weather diversity across the continent even in summer.

Currently France is going through an extreme heat wave (and it is spreading across europe), and I guarantee there were a lot of vacationers who were unprepared for the extreme heat due to not paying attention to the weather channel. Always check the weather until the day you leave.

Summer packing lists tend to be the easiest to plan for, and the lightest to pack in a carry-on. That doesn’t mean that you should bring 10 shirts, and 6 bathing suits.

You should always keep it streamlined with some basic travelling math. You multiply the amount of bottoms you are bringing (should be 3-4) by the amount of tops. This will give you a nice base number of how many outfits you will get from your travel wardrobe.

Add in a light sweater or outerwear for cooler evenings and you have even more options. Some simple accessories, and a change of shoes can also give you a completely different look from the same pieces too. Even after a month you should not get wardrobe fatigue if you plan right.

Planning right means preplanning your outfits to make sure that they all work. Trying everything on and take a picture so you can refer to the different travel outfit options you came up with if you are having and, “I have nothing to wear” moment.

Also remember that as you travel around, no one is going to know that you wore the same outfit as yesterday if you are in a different city.

For the cities that are consistently hot in summer like Rome, you will stick to your dresses, loose pants, and shirts. While in places like Ireland and the UK you may experience a heat wave, but more often than not it will be cooler and wetter. This is where your light jacket, and cardigan for layering will come in handy.

I stuck to a more neutral and darker palette this week because it is easy to wear, and always looks chic. I have never worn black and not felt put together. It is simple yet effortless and you will fit in well with the fashionable Europeans.

It is important to note that you will most likely be doing laundry more than once over the course of a month. If you stay in AirBnb’s it will probably be more often if your Airbnb has laundry facilities. This will let you pack even lighter if you are inclined to pack less pieces….which should be your ultimate travel wardrobe goal.
