Are you going on a Greece vacation and looking for a Greece packing list? Summer packing lists are wrapping up for me but I thought I would get out one to the extremely popular summer vacation destination of Greece.

Greece consists of a lot of islands/regions and each one has its own personality and vibe. Being able to accommodate this with your Greece travel wardrobe is simple with some careful capsule planning.

Luckily enough the summer weather of Greece remains pretty constant across the country so you do not need to be concerned about extreme temperature changes like you do when you are planning a travel capsule for mixed climates.

On the mainland Athens style is very smart casual. While Mykonos is very much focused on beach and the night life; Santorini has a more romantic vibe where you will see breezy dresses, and a lot of white clothing. Although bright colours are favoured as well.

Touring the Acropolis will put in in the middle of A LOT of tourists dressed as very noticeable tourists, so if you want to blend in with the Athenian locals then try sundresses, high-waisted shorts with cute tops, and skirts. You can’t go wrong with a linen shirt dress

Other areas on the Greece mainland are more conservative, so you may want to wear your longer dresses and skirts there. If you are a woman wearing shorts or pants it is important to note that in order to enter monasteries you need to be wearing a longer skirt or dress (below the knee in most places, but to the ankle in others).

If you are not wearing a suitable length skirt or dress then they will provide you with a wrap-around skirt/piece of fabric before you are allowed entrance. It’s easy to bring a sarong rolled up small in your bag that you can use in a pinch. Save the shorts for the more casual Greek island cities, and the beach.

When you are deciding on travel footwear for your Greek packing list, plan a variety. Your touring the Acropolis footwear should have a sturdy sole. Flat soles are very slippery and dangerous if you get stuck walking on marble in the rain.

The flat soled, cute sandals are good for the beaches, casual strolls. and nights out. An easy to wear slip on shoe or sneaker in canvas will work well and be much more comfortable in the heat than a leather running shoe.

Espadrilles in wedge, flat, or slip-on form are also a cute addition to any warm weather travel capsule….I prefer a good flat shoe version though. I can’t imagine walking in a high wedge all over Greece. Have you seen the stairs in Santorini?

Athens is hot is the summer. Very hot.  Don’t forget your hat, sunglasses, and suntan lotion. When planning to wear in Greece in the summer lean towards cottons, and linens. The thinner, lighter fabrics will be much more breathable and make the heat more bearable.

While you won’t need a jacket, it is good practice to pack a light sweater, or cardigan for a cooler evening on or by the water. A lightweight blazer will also dress up a sundress for an evening out.

Most of the European budget airlines allow a carry-on with the maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm so make sure that you are familiar with all of your airlines baggage rules and regulations. Tortugabackpacks has a informative and humorous blog post about it here.

For the perfect carry-on for most airlines I am really digging the Allpa 35L Travel Pack by Cotopaxi. It looks like a dream bag, and the reviews speak for themselves.
